“Great value at the Family House Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2008

We have just returned from a 5 night stay at the Family House Hotel in Rome. Although we were quite early arriving at the hotel our room was ready and we were able to take our baggage straight up. The room was basic yet comfortable and very clean. The shower (plenty of hot water) and toilet were very clean. We had a quad room with a double and two single beds and there was still room to walk around. We had a small balcony with a couple of chairs which was more than we had expected. All the staff were helpfull and pleasant. Breakfast was served at a snack bar just down the street which was probably a bonus rather than a pain as it got us up and out in the mornings. The hotel was not far away from the Termini station but far enough not to be bothered by noise from trains and people and within walking distance (we have children of 7 & 8) from the centre. We had a superb holiday in this bustling city full of history and architecture and were more than happy with the hotel and the price we paid for accomodation. All in all we thought it was a good location, good service and cleanliness and great value for money. We would certainly recommend others and would stay here again ourselves.

“Well, it is cheap...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2008

I booked this hotel thru Venere. Unfortunately we planned a trip to Rome sort of last minute & every place we wanted was booked. The price was 88 Euros a night & you get what you pay for. If you're just looking for a cheap place, you could do worse.

We stayed in room 10, on the 5th floor (no elevator). When you've been out walking all day, how much do you want to walk up 4 flights of stairs?

The room was tiny. I've been in my fair share of cheap european hotels, this was the smallest room yet.

The shower & bathroom worked fine, although there was just a curtain separating the shower area from the rest of the room.

The gal that worked the front desk during the day was nice enough, but the other people at different times weren't quite as accomodating & didn't speak English as well.

The bed was as hard as a rock. no extra blankets or pillows to be found. One really slim closet with no drawers or shelves. No hangers.

Breakfast is served at a bar nearby. Although the one day we got up early enough to make it there, the bar was closed so they gave us a few Euros to get breakfast elsewhere.

It is nearest the Vittorio Emanuelle metro stop. Bus 110 stops just at the end of the street. There is a grocery store around the corner that was even open on Sundays. This part of town seemed to have a little Asian enclave. A lot of Asian clothing shops & whatnot.

The picture of the outside of the hotel on this site did not look like the otuside of the hotel. I was a bit confused when we pulled up.

“Not a B&B”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2007

Quite a disapointment. Not sure where the room pictures on their site come from, there is nothing charming about this hotel! Our room on the thrid floor (no lift, no help with the luggage) was barely clean enough to sleep in and, there was mold in the shower. We only stayed because of the price and the difficulty of finding other accomodations on such sort notice. As far as the Breakfast part of B&B, you get a voucher and walk two blocks (we called it the 'left-left-right' as those are the instructions) for a cup of coffee and a roll. The people were nice enough but there was never the same person on the desk two days in a row and no one spoke more than a word or two of English, or wanted to go out of their way to assist with things like clean towels or toilet paper. If you are a back-packer and want to save a few bucks, give it a try. If you are used to more, stay somewhere else!

“Terrible place!! Yuk!”

This place is disgusting, stay somewhere else if you possibly can the expense will be worth it.
I stayed here last week over New Years. The hotel is located in Via Bixio in the scummy area Behind Termini station. We arrived at the 'hotel' to be told by the receptionist that she didn't know what 'ensuite' is SO we were allocated to our room where we had to SHARE the most appalling bathroom with the people in the next room. The shower cubicle had MOULD everywhere (ugggh it's making me itch just thinking about it) there is also a bath which had tide marks in it and a toilet which i had to clean BEFORE i used it. It is really gross! The room itself was tiny and smelt like a dirty old mop, i opened the window as soon as i got into the room and sprayed deodorant around. We spent as much time away from the hotel as possible on purpose because it was so awful.

This is the worst place i have ever stayed in.
Eeeuughhh!
