We spent 4 days in Rome and wanted somewhere to stay that was near (walking distance) to everything! This is the perfect place.
As mentioned in the previous review, don't trust google to get you here, instead just come out of the station and walk a little way down Via Cavour, you'll find the hotel down one of the side streets about 5 mins down. Take note of all the restaurants on your way, these were some of the best value. As a general rule, we found the further from the train station you got, the more expensive the restaurants and bars got, so if you're on a budget you won't go wrong eating in these restaurants!
When arriving you get a warm welcome from the friendly staff. We got an early flight so not to loose any time exploring Rome, but it meant arriving at the hotel at 12pm and perfectly acceptably, the room wasnt ready. No problem, the staff were happy to look after our bags in reception until we returned later to check in. Again on departure we had a late flight so they kindly looked after our bags until the evening when we were ready to go.
We had an ensuite room which was nice on the first floor. We were at the end of the corridor so was quiet and didn't get much noise from people going up and down the stairs. I also thought having a room above the breakfast room would be noisy but actually was no problem! The rooms were not massive but what I would expect in central Rome. Besides we didn't spend much time in it, when there's all those places in Rome to visit! Some rooms look out onto the quiet side street, others into a courtyard between the other buildings. We were looking onto the road which I think I prefered. The bed was comfy, room was clean and tidy, it was also constantly cool despite being 30c most days - keep the window open and shutters closed while you're out and it's perfect. Air con worked perfectly but we didnt use it much. There's a safe to lock money and passports in.
Continental breakfast was available every morning from 7-10. It was basic but just what was needed to set you up for all that exploring! Cereal, youghurt, pastries, rolls, ham, boiled eggs etc, also juices, coffee machine or capuccino on request.
The Colosseum is about 10 mins walk, I recommend getting there early, around 9 to avoid long queues. Vatican city is about 50 mins walk. Spanish steps and Trevi fountain about 15 mins walk as well as plenty more. As you can see, there's plenty within walking distance! On arrival we were given a map and shown the recommended sights and best walking routes. We had our own map but this was very handy pocket size map and was much easier to see where the different places were.
In general it was perfect for a short city break and I would certainly recommend this hotel. I would love to visit again as there's so much we didn't get to see, and would certainly book here again.
