“Clean and Comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2009

Hotel was very good with a nice breakfast. The staff were very nice and always eager to help out. The only problem was that they did not speak much english and they did not have a 24hr reception. But the rooms were spacious and the bathroom was good. There was a kitchen where we took our breakfast everyday which consisted of croissants, tea, coffee and biscuits.I will definately like to go back and stay there again!

“Good location, clean, but noisy”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2009

I would give only 2 points on "cleanliness" - the room is actualy tidy, but noise from the street is too much in room 101. Suppose same noise in room 102, probably much better for room 103, which faces the space between the blocks. Actually this would be the only negative comment for this b&b from my side. Very communicative location - close to the the Manzoni Metro station and bus stop, Coloseo is at 15 min by walk, same for Termini station. "n1" bus has also stop there - so excellent for those who come back home from the night life in the small hours. Our room had a private bathroom, other 2 rooms have too (I suppose).

“Handy location, all you need”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 June 2008

This B&B is in a handy location - nearby to Marzoni Metro station and a large supermarket, and about 15 mins walk from the Roman Forum. It is basically three bedrooms and a kitchen in a converted apartment, on the first floor, so if you like a smaller more friendly place to stay, it's very good although I doubt it would be that great for families.

I'd recommend getting the airport pickup (the owner will organise a driver to collect you from the airport or train station) as to find the accommodation would be difficult without this, and it's a bit cheaper than hopping in a taxi.

The kitchen facilities were really useful - with a fridge, freezer, hob and washing machine there's not much more you need! The hotel was clean and tidy, and although the owner doesn't speak much English, is very friendly. He pops in usually in the mornings and evenings.

If you like a big breakfast though be warned, you won't get that here! Fresh bread, fresh coffee and a pastry is the staple, but of course with the kitchen you can cook whatever you like for yourself.

The only quibble I have is with the traffic noise - not much the B&B can do about this, but it is very loud, even at night. Even so, I'd absolutely stay here again.

  • Liked — Convenient location, kitchen facilities
  • Disliked — That most of the time the owner was not at the property

“cute and funny!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2007

Don't believe the previous review, that area is not doggy at all! It's just 10 mins walking from the colosseum, and 5 from a park...closed and locked during the night, so not dangerous at all! there's a bar in the corner where the residents (real roman people) go to have a coffee or watch football...and i don't see anything scary in that! anyway...the owner, Giovanni, is simply AMAZING! he picked us up at termini station and went on chatting all the time (ok, i'm italian...so it's probably easier) keeping us company and giving plenty of suggestions! The b&b is cute and very clean. small bathroom ensuite, but comfy bed and tv. in italian, obviously! nice italian breakfast served by the super friendly and polite Giovanni (another one, not the owner)...try the croissants...my boyfriend (english) got an addiction!!!
the position is simply perfect. we never never needed to use the metro or a bus, you can walk everywhere, if u got the spirit to do it an no money, as we were...very nice restaurant with real Italian food just one street away. overall...I hope to be back soon!!!!

“Dodgy area”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2006

We had actually booked into B&B Emanuele (after looking at positive web reviews) but due to unexplained 'technical problems' we were given a room here instead. We had to follow a woman who spoke no english (and I speak no italian) and ended up at Chiara Stella.

This was my 3rd time in 3 yrs I've been to Rome and I was really disappointed with the area and accommodation. 3rd time unlucky I suppose!

I was travelling with my Sister who is 6 months pregnant, and were looking forward to a relaxing peaceful long weekend seeing the sights and enjoying the food and warmth.

Our room (No.103)was ok in size and was admittedly nice and clean, but the noise!! We were on the street side (Via Croce in Geruselemme), which is a major road, and boy, you didn't half notice it! If you know Rome, you will know how they like to use their horns and drive very fast 24rs a day!!

And the bed! One side of the bed was very comfortable, the other had springs sticking in you at every angle.

The area felt unsafe. I have always stayed around te Termini area and found no problems and always felt quite safe (I live in London so I'm quite used to City living), but this area was badly lit full of grafitti and men just hanging around unnervingly. We ended up getting taxis back every night, whereas we would have walked or got the Metro normally, but all felt a bit too scary.

Another issue is that Manzoni tube station is being rennovated so our nearest station was Vittorio Emanuele. But at no point were we given this information. But this led to it also being a really tricky area to get a cab. We couldn't find any Taxi bays and ended up going into El Presidente Hotel and ordering cabs from there (don't think they realised we weren't staying there!)

Rome is beautiful though, just don't stay at this B&B or in the area.

  • Liked — Clean, good price
  • Disliked — Area, noise
  • Tips/Secrets — You're better off nearer north/north west side of Termini or closer to Colleseum
