Benefits:
-it was centrally located near the metro station (Vittorio Emanuele) (use a google map to find it) but you do feel you are in rome's china town. although it felt a little strange we were never in any trouble.
-the bedrooms are clean and ours had the most wonderful murial on the ceiling!
-the people running it were ok and spoke a reasonable degree of english
-had a free safe and nothing of ours was stolen
-extra blankets if it got cold
Downside
-the accommodation did get noisy at night, best to request a quiet room at the back
-the shower wasn't up to much (but if my girlfriend, who would normally complain, could put up with it, then it wasn't 'too')
places to go:
would recommend the coloesum- they have people outside selling tours, would of said it was worth it as you learnt lots and get 2 free tours included.
vatican- we got a tour outside which seemed expensive but again worth it. we found an individual guide in a group with just 2 others giving it a personal touch. unlike the 'officle'tour which had up to 30 people, so while the guide was describing things in one room most of the customers were still in the last room.
Dinner:
the restaurant near the hotel with the chairs outside is reasonable priced
for a special meal go and look at the places around the spanish steps but you may pay well for it to
Transport:
the metro sells tickets for 4 euros for a day pass (print a map off before you go) and gives you access to most of the city
from the airport to central rome- catch the bus outside the airport fo 1 euro which takes you to Anagnina metro and buy a travel pass from there (cheaper than what they charge inside the airport) the bust conductors are generally helpful and speak some english
