“Worst Experience ever”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 November 2009

This has surely been the worst budget accommodation we stayed in. The people were unfriendly and only understood english when they wanted to. They put us in a basement room which was very dark. There was a cupboard between our room and the staff's dirty backroom, so we could hear all the noises they made all the time. They furthermore smoked in it and the whole room smelled of smoke. The bathroom was awful, with grime all over it. We booked for 4 nights but could only bare 2. We had a big fight with the manager and his sister about leaving and had to pay a fine for not staying the other 2 nights. The area is very dodgy and feels very unsafe! This coming from someone who lives in South Africa says a lot ....

“Central location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 April 2007

Benefits:
-it was centrally located near the metro station (Vittorio Emanuele) (use a google map to find it) but you do feel you are in rome's china town. although it felt a little strange we were never in any trouble.
-the bedrooms are clean and ours had the most wonderful murial on the ceiling!
-the people running it were ok and spoke a reasonable degree of english
-had a free safe and nothing of ours was stolen
-extra blankets if it got cold

Downside
-the accommodation did get noisy at night, best to request a quiet room at the back
-the shower wasn't up to much (but if my girlfriend, who would normally complain, could put up with it, then it wasn't 'too')

places to go:
would recommend the coloesum- they have people outside selling tours, would of said it was worth it as you learnt lots and get 2 free tours included.
vatican- we got a tour outside which seemed expensive but again worth it. we found an individual guide in a group with just 2 others giving it a personal touch. unlike the 'officle'tour which had up to 30 people, so while the guide was describing things in one room most of the customers were still in the last room.

Dinner:
the restaurant near the hotel with the chairs outside is reasonable priced
for a special meal go and look at the places around the spanish steps but you may pay well for it to

Transport:
the metro sells tickets for 4 euros for a day pass (print a map off before you go) and gives you access to most of the city
from the airport to central rome- catch the bus outside the airport fo 1 euro which takes you to Anagnina metro and buy a travel pass from there (cheaper than what they charge inside the airport) the bust conductors are generally helpful and speak some english

“Easier to bathe with a bucket of water”

If anyone is considering Dream on via Bixio, I hope you don't intend on showering or using the bathroom during your stay.
As a thin man, I could hardly wash ALL limbs at the same time. Either one leg or arms must be left out of the shower to air dry.
My neighbour's dog cage is roomier. Also, be sure to look both ways across the hallway before quicly running to the bathroom - after fumbling for your key. Residents across the backyard seem to enjoy this view. As there is no room for hanging your towel or clothes, be prepared to streak across back and forth.
Room was okay...at least it had A/C. Should have provided a bucket...

“Perfect!”

Very impressed with this place, for such a budget price. Has a certain charm, with ceiling murals and plenty of space - more than many bigger flashier places! We found it to be very clean - bed was made when we came back and wet towels had been changed. Breakfast not included but in Italy breakfast is a brioche and a cappucino for 1.90. Owner very friendly - although not sure if they speak English, as we chatted in Italian. An unfit 15 mins walk from the Colosseum and very near Manzoni metro station. We left the room by 9:00 every morning and didn't return until well past midnight, so if you just want a warm and comfortable base from which to explore Roma, you won't find better value. Thoroughly recommended.

“Great location fo rthe budget traveler”

Three of us recently stayed for a long weekend at the Dream Guest House in Rome, Italy. It's definitely a one-star establishment, but its clean and the owner and his wife are very friendly. We got a triple room, which had one double bed, three single beds, and a private bath and terrace. The location is what makes this place and excellent choice when visiting Rome. It's about a 15-minute walk to the Colesseum and about 10 minutes to Termini Station, the main train station in Rome. We walked to the Vatican one day in about 45 minutes, but you can ride the Metro there in about 5 minutes from Termini Station. If you're traveling on a budget, this is a good choice. The owner was very gracious to constantly recommend places to eat in local neighborhood away from the tourist crowd.
