We strongly recommend Guest House Arco dei Tolomei. It is simply the perfect place to stay in Rome! The guest house is situated in a very nice neighbourhood (Trastevere), away from the bustle of the city but nonetheless very close to the historic centre. Our room was large and beautifully decorated, with a lot of attention to detail. It even had a balcony, with a great view of Trastevere. Breakfast was delicious, with homemade jams and cake. Marco, Gianna and Catia, are most gracious and welcoming hosts. Thank you for the wonderful weekend!

We traveled to Rome the last week of 2011. Arco dei Tolomei was a great find for us. At the beginning I was a bit worried when we came by car to the door of the building in the dark on evening but all fear disappeared as soon as Marco himself went downstairs to greet us.
The many advantages of Arco dei Tolomei:
1. Extremely helpful owners Marco & Gianna + staff which makes you feel like a guest of a family not just a guest of a hotel.
2. Perfect location: in a beautiful old part of Rome with small beautiful streets, shops, restaurants, quite at night and not that touristic but at the same time very close (beautiful way walking distances) to all the most famous touristic places of Rome.
3. The house itself has charming spirit of wealthy italians home.
4. Guests whom were staying there and whom we had met during our stay were very nice (I guess the choice of the place means that you have similar priorities at some point).
5. I liked the idea of breakfast at one big table all together (of course according getting up and getting hungry :) time).
5. Rooms may be not the most spacious (but really not bad compared to french or italian standards) and very cozy - feeling like at home. We were staying 3 (2adults and 1 child- 11years) and we had really enough space. Though our view through the window was modest.
The only small minus I could think of would be that it was a bit cold for me personally, but the heating at the room was working well so at the end it was not a big issue.

Of course it's a question of tastes and priorities and for those who expect "Four Seasons"or "Ritz" standards it could be too modest but for those who give the priority to coziness and feeling a part of the place you visit not just like a tourist it's a full GO. For us it's a place we will come back when visiting Rome!

We particularly wanted something Italian, something authentic and definitely not a Best Western box. The Arco dei Tolomei is so charming and quaint, but also rather elegant. The entrance is easy to miss and the real front door is up two flights of shabby stairs, but once inside it's like coming home - actually, I wish!! Beautiful furniture, pictures, good bathroom and a massive and really comfortable bed. We also had a funny little wooden stair arrangement out onto a little balcony. Marco discussed our plans with us, and advised on the best times to visit - no queue at The Vatican on a Saturday afternoon in Jan - morning v busy. The guest house is just a couple of minutes walk from the river and we easily took the number 23 bus to and from The Vatican, although the walk was maybe half an hour through gardens, but we only had two days and wanted to conserve energy and fit as much as possible in. I would heartily recommend Rome and the Arco dei Tolomei to all my friends.

My Wife and I came to stay for our Honeymoon and we could not have been looked after better. Arco dei Tolomei was a fantastic place, very comfy with a lovely room and bathroom, it even had a little balcony. The owners, Marco and his wife could not have been more charming and helpful, they recommended some fantastic restaurants and some unique things to see that weren't in the guide book. We went to one restaurant recommended by the guide book and we had the worst food and the most expensive bill! We decide to stick to Marcos advise from then on.

All in all a wonderful place, we highley recommend it.
