“was it a plane???? or the school kids screaming?????”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 July 2007

FULL of school kids yelling from the windows into the open courtyard area (which provides a fantastic echo if you yell loud enough), and a constant rumble of the airconditioning unit on the roof (something like a plane taking off 24 hours a day). If you dont value peace and quite on your holiday its a great place to stay...good views from the windows of the near by apartments and very central so you can walk everywhere.

“Awesome stay!”

Mainly Germans frequent this cozy hotel in a converted town house near station Termini. Rooms are air-conditioned, moist and small, but the real charm of the hotel is found in its elevator, breakfast room and view of the backyard and the sourrounding, adorably old-fashioned town-houses. Faux-marble floors invite you to make yourself at home. A generous breakfast is included in the service, as well as the nice staff, who is very helpful and speaks perfectly English as well as a variety of other languages, including French and Spanish. Alex (concierge) and Mike (plumber, cleaner) were especially accommodating!

I'm looking forward to spending my vacation there again and I recommend this hotel to everyone!

“Student grade hotel”

Stayed at Hotel Lazio while chaperoning on my daughter's high school trip. Rooms tiny, even by European standards. Do not stay on 2nd floor; horrible smell in every room we had kids in - opening windows helped considerably, but let in street noise even though hotel is off the main street. No shower curtains in baths, but baths were clean and had good water pressure - good thing there was a floor drain. Extra beds requested for rooms with multiple kids "felt like cardboard" according to some of the kids. Breakfast starts at 6am, and if you're on the first floor, you'll hear it being prepared. Decent fare of bread, meat, cheese, tarts with juice and coffee, but great little restaurant with good pastries a block down. Also a great little pizzeria just around the corner with the nicest staff and they spoke great English. This is definitely a student trip kind of hotel; I would NEVER stay here traveling with friends or as a couple. It is an okay location. Previous review said it is "walking distance" to most sites, but all of Rome is walking distance to everything if you're willing to walk; it's a very compact city. You can walk from the the Forum in the south to the Villa Borghese in the north if you have good shoes! That review also mentioned this hotel is close to the train station - not a plus in Rome as the metro very rarely goes where you want to go; the only exception was one line that took us straight to the Trevi, and I guess you could walk anywhere else from there. There's also a nice mall under that station (Roma Termini) where the kids liked to shop.

“Nice, Simple Hotel, Very Noisy Staff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 July 2005

My friend and I stayed at the Hotel Lazio, Via Vicenza, Rome during Easter 2005. The hotel is well situated next the the main bus terminal within walking distance of all tourist attractions. The rooms are very small, but comfortable and clean, however we found the staff to be rude and unhelpful. If you are wanting a relaxing break do not stay here as breakfast is set up at around 6am every morning and the entire hotel must hear this set up taking place, very loudly for about 4 hours with the waiting staff shouting and talking and making as much noise as possible. For the price, the hotel is reasonable but like I said, not the place to be to relax.
