“Phenomenal hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This was a beautiful hotel - not to mention spotlessly clean. The staff was courteous, the nuns weren't what you might think nuns are (stuffy, boring, etc.), and the rooms are high quality. The beds are comfortable enough, although I wish they were a bit softer. The continental breakfast is one of the biggest I've ever seen in a hotel - meats, cheeses, breads, juices, toast, cereal, milk, water, and pastries. Our group had dinner once in the hotel's restaurant, which was OK - the porkchops we had were a bit fatty, but that's my only complaint. Suora Filopena even took a picture with me! I rated this four out of five because I didn't like the church bells ringing at 7am. Other than that, it's a great hotel! I highly suggest it!

“Great Location......Can't Beat the Price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

Stayed here on my first trip to Rome. Had a tough time trying to find a place in the historic center of Rome without going broke. Domus Nova Bethlem was perfect. Room was extraordinarily clean! High ceilings, marble floors, basic bed (a little hard) with bedside desk, flat screen TV on the wall, chaise and a full sized wardrobe. The private bathroom was modern and of course spotless too. Yes the church bell rang each morning but that's part of the charm in staying in a place run by nuns.

The under 80Euro price included continental breakfast each morning: barista making fresh espresso, pastries, bread, cheese, cold cuts, fruit, yogurt and juice). In the evenings they offer 3 course meal including wine for 15Euro (nothing fancy but great if you don't want to expend the energy to go out again).

Location was perfect. Less than 10 min walking distance from Termini train station, 10 min walk to the Colosseum and Roman Forum. If you're up for it, you can pretty much walk everywhere from the hotel (Pantheon, etc).

“Clean, safe, convenient, affordable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2007

After reading reviews on how variable many of the hotel rooms in Rome can be, I was terrified to book anything. So, I decided to look into convents and monasteries. From other reviews on DNB, I thought this would be a safe bet on clean, safe lodging. It was.

DNB wasn't the fanciest place in which I've stayed (I usually like to be pampered), but they were very kind and the rooms were more than adequate for my sister and I. It was very quiet even though it was located on a busy street and school children were in the courtyard at times (we closed the window and then didn't hear anything--and I'm very sensitive to noise). There was an elevator which was very nice after a long day! The bathroom was very clean--the corner shower was small but there was even a bidet-- and everything worked (this was one of the scarier parts of reviews of other hotels)! The breakfast was a great start for each day of walking around Rome. It had cappuccino/espresso made to order, 3 italian meats, breads, cheese, cereals, milk, juice, yogurt, fruit and I was introduced to Nutella!

The location was an easy walk from the Termini and was at the north end of Santa Maria Maggiore. The Metro stop was close and the walk to the Forum/Coliseum and Via Condetti/Spanish Steps was reasonable. There were many little shops down the street that we hit almost daily to pick up "cheap" souvenirs and plenty of restaurants of varying types. And we could always find gelato in about every direction.

I have recommended it to others thinking about coming to Rome that want a decent hotel at a decent price.

  • Liked — Location and cleanliness.
  • Disliked — Not a concierge hotel or spa, but that's not what I was looking for.

“clean and comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2007

This hotel is part of a convent so you'll probably see nuns wandering about, but it is a clean and comfortable place to stay. Its close to Santa Maria Maggiorre on Via Cavour, and easily accesible from cavour metro stop and a short walk from the main train station, as well as having a bus stop just outside that crosses the city to Travestere. The hotel is on a busy road and it can be noisy if you are in one of the rooms at the front - however do ask as if possible they will move you. The rooms are simple - bed, desk and chair with a tiled floor and a few religious pictures but are a reasonable size and are very clean. The breakfast is nothing to get excited over but is more than adequate - except the poor attempts at tea making. There are quite a few restaurants in the area - some are better than others. However completely avoid the british pub in the square up the hill at the back of Santa Maria Maggiore but there is a fantastic ice-cream shop just down the hill from the hotel!
