“good hotel for its location and price”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2009

I took a group of 15 peoples to Rome and stayed at Gioia B&B for one night.Hotel is close to Manzoni metro station and to most attraction. There are no visible sign for this hotel and its in block of flats. Do not be put off by its looks from outside its very cosy and clean place.Guy at reception called givioni a helpful person but lady in the morning is rude and noisy and will wake you up with banging and talking loudly in the morning while making breakfast. Its a nice place to stay and would recommend to you providing you keep breakfast lady quite by giving her some euros.

We were 5 friends stayed for 3 nights at this crap b&b. We were greeted by a nice gentleman call Filippo who were nice. But night mare started when the old lady who works in the morning shift. The latest breakfast time is 9.30am. She shouted at us when we went for breakfast sharp at that time. The next day we didnt have breakfast because first it was crap, just a bread and coffee, secondly it was too early. The lady suddenly stomp into our room and shouted at me claiming she smell ciggratte. Infact, 3 of us share that room does not smoke. She stomp in and check the rubbish bin and open the window and said something in italian. The 2nd day we didnt have breakfast but one of my mate went to get a coffee, the lady harrass my friends with those italian languages again. Just a cup of coffee, we are the guest, she should do her best not shout at us. The last day, she told us to check out SHARP at 10.30am. We did what she said, we packed everything but when we were 2minutes late, she stomp in again and snatch the hair dryer n put it back into the toilet and harrass us again with her languages. She took the booklet in said we should leave as its 10.30am now.

We were so shock!! We just get our luggages and just get out asap before she start shouting at us again. We were nice people and dont make much noises. We do not know why this bad things happend to us on our beautiful holiday trip to Rome. Please dont stay here if you hope for a nice stay.

“Cheap and Cheerful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2009

Plus points: If you want to stay somewhere basic with a bed and shower, Gioia B & B is the place to stay. It's location in relation to Metro (2mins) Colosseum (10mins walking) was excellent and we found it very easily thanks to directons provided by B & B and 2 photo's of the outside door provided by previous guests. We were allocated room 3, a very spacious room with a double and single bed in and en-suite shower room. Channel 44 on TV is BBC world news in English
Points to consider : Once inside there are approx 12 steps up to the entrance, . Breakfast was served outside, (accessed via 6 steps downstairs) in the conservatory (heated fortunately). Breakfast was 7.45 to 9.30am and at 9.30 our "hostess" pointed to her watch and began clearing the tables whether guests had finished eating or not. The description of the B & B suggested access to tea and coffee making facilities, except no kettle was provided. Also the description implied that both hairdryer and iron + ironing board were available - we had to ask for both and were given a hairdryer from another room but no iron/ironing board appeared.
Minus points: Our room could have been cleaner and the towels provided were threadbare.
Despite our rather negative comments we came to see and enjoy Rome and will definately stay here again, when we return to see some more ... One last tip, if you plan to visit the Sistine Chapel take binoculars.

“Fantastic little B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 September 2009

I've just returned from a weekend in Rome and stayed at the Gioia. I agree that the building is nothing to look at from the front but it's a house in a residential area rather than a top of the range hotel so this really isn't a problem. The rooms are large and clean, we had a double room and my friend a single room which was really a family room, both with a balcony over the garden. It's a very easy 15 minute walk to the Colleseum, down one main road so very easy to get about. Breakfast is simple but all you need to start the day and it saves paying a lot for a breakfast in the city. There are restaurants and bars close by as well as the metro station. The B&B was happy for us to leave our bags after checking out so we didn't to carry them around Rome all day. Will definately stay there again when I next visit Rome.

“A great little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2009

We stayed here for 3 nights to celebrate my daughters 18th birthday. The hotel is nothing to look at when you enter, BUT the family room we had was great, clean and bright, with a spacious bathroom. Breakfast was good, served in the garden. The garden is great, we used to relax in the garden with a bottle of wine :) after a busy sight seeing day. The small kitchen could be used to cook, there were a few people who did this. All in all it was a very relaxed atmostphere. The couple that looked after it were very helpful.
