As others have noted, this B&B can be a bit difficult to locate. The only sign on the street is a tiny "Gioa B&B" on the buzzer list at number 20 (see photo). I am pretty sure the review that says this is a brothel walked into the wrong place, because this seemed to be a proper family friendly place. There were no obvious computers in the lobby and no four poster beds. The neighborhood is very quiet and I was very comfortable walking alone at night (which I assure you is not always true).

Gioa B&B is a great value for the money given that it is in Roma center. It is a block or two away from Manzoni metro stop and we were able to walk home from the Colosseo area comfortably when we didn't want to wait for the late night bus service. One thing that surprised me was the metro stops at 9pm, though both the line A and B night buses stop at the Manzoni station so it isn't inconvenient, I just had to learn where to catch the A and B bus at Central Termini.

Our room was large with marble floors, a comfortable bed, a nice bathroom and a small balcony overlooking the patio garden, which is delightful. The mother keeps the place sparkling clean.

Phillip, the son, speaks excellent English and provided good guidance on where to go and how to get there. The mother speaks limited English, however there are translation dictionaries handy at the front desk.

The breakfast was OK with coffee, warm milk, cereal and packaged pastries. We got tired of it after a day or so and started bringing in our own. We were allowed to use the kitchen for lunch and dinner which helped keep costs down. There are two good size supermarkets within a few blocks - in the opposite direction from the metro.

Noise does carry between the rooms. We did not notice this until a rather loud family checked into the next room. We did not hear the previous family at all.

I think the best part was sitting in the garden during the day while taking a breather between seeing all the sights of Roma.

I have just spent a week in this lovely B&B with my Girlfriend. We loved it, the rooms are excellent. We were overlooking the garden where you have breakfast, which again is above and beyond what we were expecting for £40 a night. The metro is literally 1 minutes walk away and has just been re-opened so is nice and clean.

I would happily spend another week here, and would recommend this B&B to any of my friends and family!

excellent!

It was great to stay at the Gioia, the garden is wonderful before and after long walks in the city (it is a 14 minutes walk to the Colosseum). The breakfast is nice, the room and the bathroom is clean. We liked the Russian lady working there, too. So I suggest it to everybody.

Maybe this is as good as it gets for Eu 110/night in Rome, for a family of 4. But it certainly wasn't in a good neighbourhood, graffiti and dog droppings on the sidewalks. I wouldn't feel safe walking alone here at night. But on the upside, there was police presence on the same block. The neighbourhood was quiet, but maybe a bit too quiet. Even the main streets are not well lit.

There is a parkade 2 blocks away, but we didn't use it. The subway is 2 blocks away, but the station was being renovated while we were there, so we had to walk an additional 6 blocks to the next station. Advertised on their website is a cheap shuttle service to the airport--but the owners didn't seem to know about it, but it could be our language problems (our lack of Italian, and their lack of English). We did however get a private taxi to the airport for Eu 50, which seemed the norm.

It's about a 20 minute walk to the Coliseum, and abit longer to other attractions, so it's abit out of the way.

The room is clean and well-kept, but basic. There is air-con that works almost too well. The breakfast is served in a nice garden area, but is basic and doesn't vary.

This is a BROTHEL, not a hotel!
My husband and I booked this on [---] and it looked like it was nice and clean and basic, just what we wanted. However, when we got there we first couldn't find it. The shop owner next door said there was no such hotel and she even rang the number but there was no reply. We eventually found a door and got in when some man came out through it. We went upstairs to a place that couldn't be described as a reception, just a load of computers with a lot of men hanging around. We showed our reservation to someone and he got all flustered before going banging on a door which was then opened by a man buttoning up his pants and we could see a naked woman in the background on a big 4-poster bed! We saw another half-naked woman running down a corridor. That was when we decided to make our escape!
Do not book this place. We had a lot of hassle trying to find other accommodation that night so don't put yourself through what we did. Choose someplace else. We ended up staying in Osimar Hotel (3 star) which my daughter found on lastminute.com and it was really lovely, we were very impressed. But wherever you decide to stay, don't stay at Gioia!!!
