“Good Rates, Great location, but..”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2007

The Good: Location, less than a mile from Termini Train station, we walked with bags in 10 minutes. 4 Nice Resterants within 1 block, Laundry 2 doors down, Internet cafe across the street, corner market 4 doors down, 3 nice Plazza's within a mile, Bus , Metro, & Taxi stand within a mile. The rate for a double was 110.euros a night. The Rooms were quite large by european standards.
The Bad: They charge 6.00 euro for a bad breakfast. Most of the Staff don't speak english. The Elevator dosen't reach the ground floor, so you must drag your bags up a winding flight of stairs to access it. There is a lot of noise from the street, but thats the norm in the center of Rome.
The Ugly: Maid service was poor, no soap, not enough towels (those that were provided were poor quality), the floors were not swept. The Shower was divided from the rest of the bathroom by only a curtain, so water was everywhere after showers.
Next trip to Rome I'll stay in the same area, but a different Hotel.

“Prison Break-Exodus from this terrible prison cell!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2007

Late September, my husband and I first visited Rome. And everything looked beautiful and promising in this ancient capital.
We're newly married then. But it was not our honeymoon. It would have been soooo sad if we were to spend our first honeymoon night in the dungeon-like stingy little prison cell.

I made a reservation at one of the most well-known websites and for the price(which itself was now that low! we paied like 90 eurosl.), I didn't expect much but at least expected humanely O.K. room.

We were not really really righ or something because we both were in our 20's but on business, we occasionally stay in very nice accomodations. And our honeymoon in the Maldives was impaccable. Meaning, we have rather discerning eyes when in comes to hotels.

Due to the usual delay of Lufthansa flight, we got there after 2 in the morning. We were extremely tired and in desperate need of good night's sleep. But the moment we got there, all these innocent dreams evaporated, just like that!

I don't wan to look like a picky person. But the reception desk employee was very scary and sullen. Then the room...it reminded me of Michael Scofield of Prison Break show. It is usual for an European hotel not to have a spacious or extravagant enterior decoration, especially for a value hotel like this one. But apart from all, the room itself was in such an sawful condition.

My husband is usually a grateful person. He rarely whines about anything, unlike myself. But even he yelled out loud 'Oh my God! What did you do?' I felt so sorry for him because it was me who did all the bookings and planning. Then the bathroom...God, please save me!!! Inmates would have showers in better bathrooms then ours. The towels were not really towels. They were like the napkins they use at cheap and cheasy restaurants to wrap silverwares. Water never permeated them!

After first night's stay in Rome, we were supposed to go up North to Assisi, Firenze, and Siena, and back to Rome and stay there for another 2 nights at this same hotel. But couldn't bear it any second. So, the next morning, the first thing I did was look up in a guide book for a nicer hotel-which would be any-and fortunately, found one.

But to make sure, and no to be deceived again, before heading for Termini, we actually visited the hotel and asked them to show us thr room and then booked it. It turned out to be a nice little value hotel. And basically anything other than that would have been enough.

This March, after 7 months, I'm going to Rome again on vacation. I'll be staying in one of the most luxurious hotels in Rome. But before work starts, I want to arrive there earlier and get around. So this time again, I did a lot of reserach and read reviews. Then I found this hotel still attracting some innocend and gullible tourists. Oh, please!!!! I personally contacted the second hotel we stayed in Rome again and reserved a room for 2 nights. Venturing into new hotels, especially this time I'm travelling alone-is risky given it is Europe. The hotel I booked this time also has some mixed reponses from the users but it depends on your personal stories during your own stay.

Anyways...even if you're a young, aspiring, and adventure-seeking tourist or a student, don't stay here. If you're still at school and have to save budget, there're lots of good B&Bs and youth hostels, I guess.

Lesson learned, for fair quility accomodation, you should be willing to pay just a little bit more. Loved everything about Italy, but not this one.

  • Liked — The fact that we had a roof over us to spend the night

“Do not stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 June 2006

I am fair man and I would not write a review if I did not feel strongly about it. In Rome, if all goes well you will get what you pay for. The Hotel Ferrarse is about the least expensive lodging around. I didn’t expect much on my arrival.

The staff was unfriendly. The room was dirty (even for a cheap place). The bathroom emitted sewage orders into the room. Do not stay there.

HERE IS THE GOOD PART: The Hotel Milo is in the same building, on the same floor (you can’t miss it). The Hotel Milo was priced about the same and gave me great value. They have very helpful staff and many more amenities. STAY AT THE HOTEL MILO.

“Not a pleasant hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2005

We stayed at this hotel for one night with my mother in November 2004.

Good things first: cheap (55 euro for a double room), close to Termini and reasonably clean room.

Bad things: inconvenient small room and bathroom, awkward layout (reception on the second floor, rooms on the 4th floor, noise from the crridor when other guest come/leave, unpleasant reception).

Conclusion: the hotel is an acceptable budget option for one night stay, I would not recommend it for longer stays.

“Basic Lodging in Rome”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2005
13
people found this review helpful

The Hotel office is 32 steps up, on the "first floor." There is a small elevator which can be used. The rooms are on the fourth floor, which is 108 (five-inch) steps above street level. The elevator will take you there.
We were in a quad-person room, overlooking Principe Amedeo street. It was very noisy with the windows open, and mildly noisy with the windows closed.
There was a small bathroom, with one towel rack. The shower consisted of shower pipes in the corner of the bathroom, with a curtain composing the other two walls of the shower.
There was no soap dish in the shower.
The towels were unique, like linen, rather than terrycloth.
There was one five-by-five inch washcloth for the four of us.
The soap was typical cheap-hotel-soap which barely lathered and seemd to leave a film on your face.
The bed was hard. I didn't sleep well.
The pillow was hard, and flat, even after I bent it double.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was not included, but was five Euros if you wanted to pay for it.
We got bread from a local bakery and croissants from the Bontempi Bar on Farini Street for breakfast. There is a fruit stand two blocks away by the train station where you can buy fruit.
There are numerous pizzerias, ristorantes and trattorias in the area. There is a McDonalds and a PastOrita by the train station.
It was amusing to this American to find the Italian Chinatown two blocks away. I can barely read Italian, much less Chinese Italian.
It wasn't the greatest place, but it was tolerable, if you don't mind a bit of street noise at night. It was actually entertaining to hang out the window and watch the action down below.
It isn't the type of place you stay for the hotel experience. It is the type of place you come back to at night for some sleep before hitting more sights early the next day.
I would stay there again. I'm not very picky.
My wife gave it two stars out of five stars.
My adult children gave it three stars out of five stars.
For you Internet addicts, there is a high-speed Internet point two doors down which charges one Euro for 30 minutes. It really was a fast connection.
The hotel itself has an Internet point for one Euro per hour, but it looks a bit old. I didn't try it.
The location of the hotel by the train station is good. The bus station is there. The Metro (subway) station is there. You can get to anywhere in Rome any way from the train station area.
