Arriving at this hotel, the clerk at the front desk requested payment upfront. I commented that this was unusual as I had been in Italy for 12 days and every hotel accepted payment at check out. The clerk proceeded to shout at us for 5 minutes that if we didn't want to pay up front that we could leave. When I asked why he was shouting, he insisted that he wasn't, that he was from Napoli and that this was his nature. Anyway, he escorted us to our room , and we ended up not having to pay up front.
The room seemed fine until we discovered a pin in the bed and then the toilet wouldn't flush. My friend complained to the clerk. He came to the room yelling and declaring that he is a practical man. He held the filthy brush side of the toilet brush in his bare hand and used the handle to push the items in the toilet down. Then he took that same handle in his hand and returned it to its holder. He didn't wash his hands and proceeded to touch the door handles to leave the room. Disgusting!
My friend asked to change rooms because the toilet still wouldn't flush. He started yelling at us that this was a two star hotel and that we were four star people. He said if we weren't happy we should just get out. I asked again why he was yelling. This was a simple problem, there was no need to get excited.
We ended up leaving. Even if this was a two star hotel, I don't think that asking for a toilet that flushes or a refuse free bed is asking too much. I also don't think any guest should be abused for making simple requests.
Also, this two star hotel cost 20 Euros more than the three star hotel to which we moved.
