“Not the best...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed here in December 2011 for two nights.... I don't think our group would have liked to stay much longer!

The hotel suffers from power cuts meaning that the hot water does cut out frequently, that is the hotels biggest downfall.

Breakfast was a coffee and a croissant in the reception area... fine by me, but I know others were not so impressed.

We stayed in room 207 and the room was a good size and we slept well. As it was winter I was pleased to see a heating unit that actually worked, so we kept this on the whole time!

The staff were not very friendly, but then we found this with staff all over Rome in restaurants etc.

Second to the cold water, the biggest downfall of the hotel was the shower. The bathroom was basic but fine, but every time we got in and out of the shower the door fell apart! There was a hairdryer but it was pretty awful, I didn't even attempt to use it!

The location was fine for us, it's near to the Policiona Metro station so we just got the undergound in to central Rome every day. We left our bags at the hotel for the day after checking out and that was perfectly safe.

TIP: Take your own towel. We even looked to buy one in the shops theirs were so bad - it's like using a piece of paper to dry yourself!

“do not stay there”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

If this Hotel is a 3 star then I am Cleopatra! Bad service; bad location (middle of nowhere); bad staff (2 of them, should not be in the service industry at all); bad showers ( I had no hot water at all); bad elevator (doesn't work for the guests , it seems) ; bad breakfasf (poor, really).

“Good value for good money.”

Maybe it's not looking impressive from the outside. It is small and basic, but the location is great. The metro station is just few metres away, the neighbourhood is quiet and safe. Is not far from the city center, but not so busy. You can get there from every part of Rome by bus, so the access is really easy. Rooms are clean and big enough. The fittings are basic, but what else do you need in Rome, is so many things to see and do, so you don't spend time in a hotel, you just sleep there. The staff is very friendly and helpful, is really nice and real italian atmosphere:) Breakfast is simple, but surprisingly enough in that heat.
The only minus for us was very thin walls, so you hear all the noise from rooms next to yours. But usually we were back in the hotel very late, and were very tired so we were sleeping like babies:)
Rome is amazing city, there is lot to explore, so this hotel is very good base for every day trips.

“Better inside than outside”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2010

This is a hard one to be objective about. I read all the previous reviews and here’s what it is.

First, the outside and the approach. To say that it is in a neighborhood setting is far too kind. It is really in a alley leading to a mechanics garage. As Flip Wilson would say: “In the corner, in the back, in the dark”. My wife would have killed me if I took her there. My kids would have been horrified. Had I not read some of the reviews, I would have balked at the idea. A bland non-descript exterior that tells you to go away. And it looks like it rents by the hour and you can buy dime bags of dope close by. But its not and its secure.

OK, put a pin in that and move on. Location. I can’t imagine why a tourist visiting Rome would stay there. Its only tourist value is that it is very close to a metro stop. There is nothing touristy around there. Nothing. There is a hospital and the Italian Ministry of Defense (the reason I stayed there). There is nothing central about it. You can briskly walk 15 minutes to Termini with all its connections, or take the metro there. As Linea B isn’t too active, it might be quicker to walk.

Put all that aside and lets go inside. Nice place. While the outside might be one star, the rooms really earn the three stars. Very clean -VERY! Looks like the hallways were recently decorated as well as the rooms. Small rooms, but not as small as Paris (the litmus test to see if you can get along with your girlfriend for a long weekend). Air conditioning works well and water is HOT. Looks like the previous problems mentioned are resolved. Toiletries are basic. TV is small and near the ceiling. Didn’t try it as I thought it wouldn’t have English channels. No wireless available. Staff are nice and come through. Could be the other reviewers expressed their horror with the outside and the staff took umbrage with that. Or could be that they didn’t speak English as well as some Americans expect the rest of the world to speak. I wouldn’t go beering with them, but they were direct and friendly and handled all my questions. Walls were a bit thin as one night I cold hear my neighbor yawning and the next night the TV on the other side.

Shower? It really is a tight fit to get into it. If you are chucky, you could be out of luck. If you are a heavy breasted lady, deeply exhale.

I don’t think that I would go back. As a back packing student in the 60’s, I would have loved this. But now I am an old Marriott guy. Normally we would stay at one of the Italian military BOQs or the nearby Globus or Mercure hotels, but they were full.

There is nothing wrong with the place, but its not for me. If I went to Rome as a tourist, I would look for someplace near Piazza d’Espagna.

“Good location, quiet neighbouhood, good basic hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 May 2010

We stayed in a twin room for 5 nights and we found it to be a very basic but clean hotel which is exactly what we were looking for. Was a little hard to find at first but the location was in a quiet neighbourhood just out of the city, it was only a 2 minute walk to the train station and not even 10 minutes in to the centre of Rome and we actually found it nicer to be outside of the city. Staff were friendly and helpful, the pastries for breakfast were to die for and although the room was quite small, we were there to see the city, not stay in our rooms so it was more than enough for us.
