“Nice hotel, area not so nice”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 June 2007

I visited this hotel with my teenage daughter for a get-a- way break to see the historic sites of Rome.
The staff were friendly and approachable.
Breakfast was a bit meagre, coffee and two rolls, which was fine for us.
Our room was quiet as it was at the back of the hotel. The room was large and clean, but in need of updating. The bathroom was large, clean and with plenty of towels.
The area the hotel was situated in was dingy, with grafitti and litter, and no near by restaurants.
It was also too close to the railway station for night time walking, as it made us both feel uncomfortable.
It was central enough if you are willing to walk, which is the best way to take in all the atmosphere of this great city.

“OK for Budget”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 April 2007

Elyse is an ok hotel for a budget travelling especially when you want your stay to be efficient.

Plusses:
-I found my room clean and bed comfortable
-minibar is great to store the souvenir-Parmesan, etc.
-the employees had colourful personalities and they were polite
-the hotel is small which makes it comfy
-security: the entrance was locked at all times
-the breakfast was nice (for a few nights' stay)
-location: good acces to trains, metro, center...

Minuses:
-the hotel photos are old and do not reflect the reality
-location in a sense that the surrounding is filthy
-lot of traffic right in front of the hotel
-the renovation/decoration of the room was made sloppy

All in all I would stay again (if I didn't have the imagination to go elsewhere).

“Close to Train Station”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2006

This hotel is very convenient to the train station and a 15-20 minute walk to the main attractions in Rome. The location, however, did not make my husband I very comfortable. The room was large compared to the hotel rooms in Italy, but it seemed dirty. The carpet was stained and I felt like I had to wear shoes the whole time. When we travel, we are seeing the sites and not sitting in our hotel room, therefore we are usually not picky in what we get. Convenient location, but dirty room.

“Not even acceptable for budget travelers!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2006

I only had a few requirements for the hotel we stayed at in Rome, it had to be within walking distance of the train station and under $100. This hotel was not any where in my top 5 choices but everything else was booked. We had several complaints with the first being how loud the traffic was. The hotel is not on a major street so you wouldn't think it would have been a problem but traffic coming in both directions by the train station are forced to turn down the small street. So all you could hear around the clock were buses, cars and motorcylces braking and then accelerating. I tried ear plugs and wrapping a pillow around my head but it did not help. The beds were ridiculously uncomfortable, you could feel every single spring in your back. I resorted to layering extra blankets below the sheets. My only saving grace in getting any sleep was being exhausted from the heat & large amount of walking we did every day. The room & bathroom were at least large but very dingy with carpeting that appeared to be 20 years out, complete with all the stains, quite disgusting. Breakfast was sad compared to all the other hotels we stayed in during our trip. Also, the AC is controlled by the front desk, you have to call to get it adjusted, very strange!

  • Liked — Proximity to the train station
  • Disliked — Accomodations, breakfast, noise, distance from any restaurants

“Nice budget hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 April 2006

I was looking for a good budget hotel for my honeymoon and I chose this hotel based on reviews I read in venere. It did not disappoint me at all. The location is really close to Termini station. The hotel is within walking distance of the Colosseum and for those like me and my wife who like to walk a lot, Rome is not that big (at least no the touristic area) and it is possible to get to most places walking. If you´re not in the walking mood, lots of regular bus lines go to Termini station, which is also a Metro station, so it is easy to get anywhere. There are also hop on -hop off tourist buses that depart from Termini station.
The staff was friendly, the room size was good,it was clean and the overall service was great.
