“Great place for the money in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 December 2011

After staying 5 days in a very expensive 5 star Hotel in Rome I had to find another hotel for one night before my departure. Walking around I came to Hotel Cecil. I liked my stay there better then in the 5 star hotel. It was cosy and secure. The staff was so friendly and made me feel good to be their guest. The location is the best, 1 minute from Spanish stairs, a few minutes from Fontana di Trevi and Villa Borghese. A lot of nice restaurants and little snack bars around the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable, small though but that was the case also in the expensive hotel. I liked the breakfast aerea and enjoyed a good breakfast compared to many other places in Italy. Food in Italy is fantastic, they just do not care about breakfast so much. But it was really fine and I did not come to Rome for the breakfast.
A taxi to the airport was organized by the nice staff and it arrived on time. I wish I could have stayed longer and will for sure come back to this hotel. I hope very soon!

“Excellent location.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 November 2011

We found this hotel while walking in the neighborhood since we needed a room for our next 3 nights. We asked for a price and to see the rooms. Not all rooms are the same. Some are remodeled and are in better condition than others. I don't know if all in the 4th floor are the same-but the one we were shown was in real bad conditon. We were shown another in the second floor and it looked very modern. Finally we were given one on the third floor. It was average. The tub had mildew on the tiles, and it was very uncofortable standing in it since it was very narrow. Otherwise, the bathroom was OK. In general, it was an OK hotel in an excellent neighborhood. Breakfast ends too early-9:30 AM and one morning we arrived a little past 10 AM, but the girl at the bar graciously offered us coffee and a couple of croissants. We were very surprised by her generosity. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We arranged for a taxi (car) back to the airport with them and it was ready even before the scheduled time (3:30 in the morning!). We were told there is a terrace on the 6th floor which opens after 4PM for drinks One night we went and it was dark and noone was there.

Room Tip: If you can, see the room first.

“Good till the last day”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

Cecil is relatively good hotel, would say good value for money. Rooms have decent size, bathroom was clean, location is really good. Blanket on the bad was terrible: it was clean and good looking but it was made of of some cheap synthetic material that we were not able to sleep at all. Breakfast was below the average comparing to Germany for example, but not bad. If you want to have early breakfast (stated it is served from 7.00 am) it might be a disappointing experience if there are not many guests in the hotel (as in our case): they may be 30 min late without showing any shame or guilt for it. But, in summary all was reasonably good till the last day. You are expected to check out at 11.00. We woke up early and had a coffee outside. We returned to hotel at 9.00 to have a rest for an hour or two before our flight. To our unpleasant surprise they did everything to kick us out earlier: cleaning lady knocked our door every 20 min even though we told her we were sleeping. Then some aggressive lady from the reception desk kept calling room next to ours (cleaning lady of course left the door open) hoping we will be annoyed enough to finally leave. Then, since it did not deliver result they hoped for, receptionist called us and with obviously faked "kindness" asked when do we plan to check out (it was 10.00 o'clock after more than 40 min being of making special noise in the corridor, knocking at our door and calling rooms next to ours). Have to say I never experienced something like this in my life! When we finally left the room (it was of course before 11.00) receptionist (aggressive, falsely kind lady, probably the owner or oldest employee) had nuts to ask if all was OK during our stay. Actually, it was before she decided to perform her "kick the guests out" show. For us Cecil was somewhere between Average to Good, but due to very unpleasant experience we never had in our life before, we give lower score and advice to take other hotel: there are plenty of 3 stars hotels in the neighborhood, you can't be kicked out from all of them :-)

Dear guest,
we are very sorry to have to answer to your complain. Your message is full of contradictions and so we need to write our point of view.
First of all we are sorry that the blanket didn't satisfy you, but they are not at all in synthetic material, infact they are in pure cotton fireproof certified, as requested from the european norms. Regarding the breakfast , we serve both "espresso" and america coffee, also during the day. Croissants are served during breakfast time, which is from 7 a.m., when the pastry shop deliver them, so if you arrive before you can start having bread and other cakes.

Regarding the problem at the reception we remember you had a bad reaction when we gently asked to you not to use the computer all day long: it is free but it should be available also for other guests.

Finally we don't "kick the guests out", in fact we use to let them stay in their rooms 1 hour after check out time. We had this misunderstanding because the maid have understood that you were leaving in that moment, so when you told her you were not leaving, she stopped.
We always try to do our best to meet the needs of all our guests

Your sincerely
Marisa Romani
