“Good location, Good value for Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

I was not expecting much at all from a 2 star hotel in Europe but my husband and I were pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Hotel Luzzatti. It is 5 minutes walk from the Metro Station - Manzoni and has a really attractive entrance from the street. Conveniently it has a big supermarket just up the road and some little places to eat at. The area is generally not the nicest so we chose to eat dinner in the city centre where the main attractions are. Our room (#36) was really big and clean, we were quite happy with it. We also had a nice big bathroom with a lovely shower. We never had any problem with noise during our stay. The road can be noisy but we had the windows closed at night as it was quite cool and to stop mosquitos coming in. Breakfast was good and we were always promptly offerred coffee/tea/hot choc. The staff were friendly. This is by far the best 2 star hotel I have ever stayed in.

“Good location; disappointing service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 June 2010

Location of hotel is very good. Near a metro. Across the street from a supermarket. I stayed with my 3 daughters (ages 20, 22, and 24). Room was spacious and air conditioning was quiet. The day we arrived there were 3 dead mosquitoes on the walls with shoe prints of the previous tenants who killed them. By the time we left 4 days later, there were 4 more dead mosquitoes on the wall with my daughter's shoeprints. No fridge. No internet service. Only one garbage can which overflowed because we were buying food from the supermarket for lunch and dinner. We had to request that the cleaning people not leave the windows opened after cleaning the rooms because it allowed too many mosquitoes into the room. On our last day of stay, I noticed that there were only a few sheets of toilet tissue left on the roll and we had an hour and a half after breakfast before our car would arrive to take us to the airport to take us home. I asked Tomaso, the fellow at the front desk who also served us our breakfast, if we could have a roll of toilet tissue and he got very angry and refused, saying he had given us toilet tissue the previous day already and that we were leaving that day anyway. Finally he went and got a roll and said begrudginly, "Do you want it or not?" I said, "No, not after the way you just spoke to me. We 'll just use whatever kleenex we can find in our purses" (which we ended up having to do). It was kind of a let down to have this altercation over a roll of toilet tissue on our last day in Rome. We only had problems with this one fellow, Tomaso. The other gentleman (I didn't get his name) at the front desk was extremely nice and helpful. However, I would never go back because of Tomaso's attitude over a roll of toilet tissue.

“Great location, but very basic and mould in bathroom”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2010

Stayed four nights at the Luzzatti in a standard room. Hotel is in a great location - walking distance from Termini for airport and regional trains, and 100m from the metro stop. The neighbourhood is quiet at night but we did not feel unsafe. There are a couple of restaurants around but better to walk down towards the colosseum. About a block before you get there on the left is a range of great trattoria, pasta around 6 Euro and mains 10 euro.
The room was spartan (see photos) but actually quite large given other Italian offerings, there is actually space for you to unpack and there is a safe in the wardrobe. The 'queen' bed was actually two singles pushed together with a queen spread, not entirely comfortable but you will sleep on it if tired. There is a TV with BBC and italian channels, enough to catch up on news. Mould in the bathroom, but thankfully not on any surface we were touching (mainly above the toilet and shower screen, see photo). Does not inspire confidence about the cleaning. It would probably help the 'humidity' if they installed a exhaust fan.
The man on the check-in desk was very helpful, giving us a map and pointing out the best way to get to everything. No other services on-site, but laundromats and internet hubs close by.
Breakfast was disappointing, they had blood orange juice from concentrate, worst croissants I've ever had (we'd just come from France), cereal, tea and coffee, not much else. Would have preferred a loaf of bread and some jam!
Overall this place is passable but not good value, we paid 100 euro per night in what should be shoulder season.

“Great Budget Hotel in a Good Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

Myself and my husband stayed in this hotel for 3 nights.
Hotel was basic but very clean. Room was a reasonable size. Staff were very firendly and helpful. There was a metro station which was about 5 minutes walk from hotel and you could walk to the Colosseum from the hotel in about 20 minutes.

Security in the hotel was also good. There was a safety deposit box in our room and the gate at the front of the hotel was always locked so no-one could get into the hotel unless someone at reception buzzed them in.

“Great family stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

Just spent two nights in a family room at this hotel and couldn't fault it. It was a huge room with one queen and two single beds and still heaps of room. It was nicely decorated with a clean bathroom. The shower was typical Italian, a bit smallish but fine. The room had a safe and air con. The breakfast was a bit basic but the staff were all very nice and helpful. Our stay was much better than I expected so was pleasantly surprised. It is a bit of a job to find it though from the Termini, so getting there via the Manzoni tube station is by far the best bet. Great, well priced accommodation, especially for a family of four. There was a supermarket virtually right across the road.
