The Prince Galles was somewhat removed from its online photographs suggested, the aircon didn't work and the service provided was done so with a grimace. We arrived very late - early hours of Saturday morning - because of a flight delay and as a result of our bus failing to show up at Ciampino Airport. We phoned ahead to make the hotel aware of this and was assured that everything was ok. Upon arrival however, they had allocated our suite to someone else and struggled to find a room to put us in. Eventually, we were given a room in the neighbouring Hotel Galles. The room was incredibly small and nothing like the suite we had paid for. We tried to complain but the 24 hr reception staff failed to see our frustration and were somewhat dismissive. The next day, we complained again and were moved to the Prince Galles. The "suite" was infact a small room with a tall ceiling that had been made split level (wooden platform with the bed on). This was infact a very good idea and worked well but the room decor was dated and in need of repair. Added to this, the bed head was appallingly dirty with dark yellowy stains on it, the bathroom was not the marble ensemble we had been promised and the shower area had no curtain, so water swam all over incredibly slippy tiles. We could have lived with these disappointments had the aircon worked at least, but alas no. In fairness, I have stayed in worse rooms but the hard fact is that the hotel is just not worth the price we paid. My key advice would be to book as far in advance as you can when going to Rome, we missed out on a lot of better hotels because we left our booking until the very last minute.
