“A great budget hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2007

What you need to remember here is this is a budget hotel, having read some other reviews they don't seem to have taken this into account as at the end of the day you get what you pay for... We stayed here for 3 nights in a triple room costing us just £22 a night each. For this we got a clean room with a bathroom right next to the Termini Station (very handy for getting the metro and buses). Our first impressions of the hotel were not great, it is situated on the second floor of an old building and after climbing up a few flights of concrete dismal looking stairs we were worried about what we had quite let ourselves in for! However the entrance to the hotel is very nice and the free internet was very useful. The staff were very friendly and spoke English well, even taught us a bit of Italian. Our room had 2 singles and a double bed, and was just big enough to fit these in plus a wardrobe and desk. One of the singles had obviously been added as there were 3 of us, but it was so uncomfortable I didn't even bother trying to sleep on it and 2 of us ended up in the double. The other 2 beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean and functional with a nice hot shower. Yes it was not perfect, for example the toilet wasn't that easy to flush but totally acceptable for the money. The maid came in each morning and folded our pyjamas and made the beds but didn't clean the bathroom. My one disappointment about the room was the window, it looked out into a small square in the middle of the building and it really wasn't a pleasant view, the shutters were hard to open and there was a lack of natural light at times, but hey we were only there to sleep... I slept very well (having walked miles around Rome) despite the shouts of some noisey Italians heard from the small square and a rather vocal pigeon outside the window. Overall the hotel was friendly, clean and what was expected for a budget 2 star accommodation although if I go back to Rome next time I think I will spend a little more for something better.

“Not so bad, but expensive”

We found the hotel easy close to Termini. The house looked old and not in so good conditions. Our room was clean but small, no shower and toilet (but in the corridor!). No breakfast but free internet. The staff was friendly and serviceminded. The price for this doubleroom was EUR 95 in the end of october. That I think is much too high

“Traveler Beware”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2006

I visited this hotel back in May while I was on a "study abroad" trip through my University with a class of 25 other students. We all had apartments in Firenze, but were taking a weekend trip to Rome. All of us decided we wanted to spend some extra time there, so we were asked to book our own hotel for one night (as it was not included in our program fee.) I booked this hotel ahead of time, being the responsible person that I am, and thought everything was all squared away! WELL, I was wrong! I had read all of these horrible reviews about the hotel before I left, but figured these people just had a bad experience and that "it was only for one night" so it would be fine, but no, Hotel Urbis HAD to find a way to make my trip horrible, as well. I arrived with the 3 other occupants by train to the busy streets of Rome- totally lost in my surroundings...the hotel was easy to find- you could see it from the train station. When I arrived Fabio said they had "no room for me", and proceeded to be completely unhelpful while he leasurely continued to read his newspaper. He handed me a map and said that he had booked a room for me in another hotel- CIAO! They never e-mailed or attempted to contact me in any way before this episode, and I was completely enraged. After an endless search for Hotel Stella (I think it was called), we finally found our NEW place for the night- even though it was dirty and smelly- it was cheap, people were friendly, and they had a great breakfast. Shame on Hotel Urbis :(

“No problems here....”

I stayed at the Hotel Urbis in May 2006, we stayed for 2 nights, and could not find fault at all with the hotel. It is a budget property, and that is exactly what you are paying for. Very close to Termini, you can see the main entrance as soon as you walk out the front door. The bus service and metro to anywhere in the city all depart from Termini, so very convienent. Tons of cheap shopping and excellent restaurants in the area as well. We were a family of 3 sisters. We each had our own single beds, and yes, there were not heavenly beds, but it was a clean place to rest your head after seeing and walking all over the city. The shower was clean, and we didnt experience anything falling apart or breaking. The staff was friendly, and helped book a tour for us. If you are looking for a luxury hotel, I would suggest paying a small fortune for another hotel. I would rather enjoy my money on food, wine, and fun, than to pay for a hotel room I am only in for a few hours a night. Stay at the Urbis if you dont mind a hotel like a Knights Inn, or a Super 8.

“A hotel not for young children- rude staff (the Old Man at the reception)”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 November 2005

I think the hotel is not recommended for family with children. I stayed in the hotel and my child bedwets as she has a health problem and due to the cold room. The remark given by the old man was very nasty. Had I not paid in full for the stay I would have looked for another hotel.
This is a genuine experience. I have stayed in many hotels in my travels with my family and by far this is the worst hotel.I stayed during my holiday in Rome in May 2005.
