“It wasnt so bad”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 September 2011

I booked this hotel for my 2 nights in rome through a travel agent. I was really scared once I read the reviews on trip advisor. I was prepared for the worst of the worst. It really wasnt bad. Its obviously one of the cheapest places in rome but it reallt wasnt bad. The pm front desk was so nice and assisted me with everything I needed. I had a huge problem and he assured me that everything would be fine and offered to help me. The graveyard guy was an old bitter man. He was getting irriatated with me hanging out late in the lobby to use the free wifi. Anyways for the low price you pay this is an acceptable place to lay your head down at night. It makes me think twice about places that are cheap and have awful reviews and I wont be so scared next time. Its a great location by the way next to Terminal 1 where you can catch all the trains. I work for hotels in San Francisco so im extra picky but like I said it wasnt that bad.

“Really not bad at all!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

This place was pretty decent all this considered. Super convenient location next to the Termini and metro stop. The room was clean with a huge window that opened up on the street. Traffic noise was a bit loud but other than that no complaints at all. Rome is an expensive city so this place was a good, cheap find. Will definitely come back.

“Not good.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2011

You're likely looking at this hotel because: 1) it's cheap; and 2) it's next to the train station.

Those are it's only good points.

The hotel is barely one star. The room was clean, but really run down: the beds sagged, the sheets had holes and stains, the shower door didn't close properly, the shower ran out of hot water, and you get a lot of noise from the street.

My friends and I stayed at the hotel on two separate nights because of train connections, in Rome. That's only way I could "recommend" this hotel. But, if you want to stay somewhere, while you're seeing Rome, I would stay somewhere else.

“Hotel Urbis is a dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2011

We have stayed at Hotel Urbis 3 times over the years and while it was acceptable the first time in 1998 it has deteriorated substantially since then. There seems to have been little or no maintenance over the years and the last visit was really horrifying. At one point we came back to a group of junkies from the nearby Termini Station shooting up in the stairway. While the area around the station is pretty rough it is also centrally located and the nearby metro station makes it a cheap alternative in an increasingly expensive Rome. Hotel Urbis doesn't control the ground floor door like most of the other hotels in the area and this leads to all kinds of rifraf having access to the building. The conditions of the rooms is well documented in the other reviews. You have to be totally desperate to stay in this place.
