“1950,s throwback”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 September 2010

Firstly the hotel is in a good location 5 mins walk from Termini station, walking distance to main attractions such as Piazza Venezia and Trevi fountain took us about 25 mins to there. This hotel is really really old and needs ALOT of work done to it, our room was tiny and really dark and our view was of a really dark courtyard with smelly sheets hanging out and a noisy generator at the window. The furniture was old but it wasn't that bad and the bed linen was simple and clean. The bathroom was not fit for human habitation it was so small even a midget would struggle the shower was really dangerous no grip on the floor and when you stepped out to dry yourself you were basically in the toilet the only plus in the bathroom was the clean towels everyday. the room was manky in that it needs painting and dusting the floor needed cleaning and the curtains were manky aswell. NOT A ROMANTIC PLACE AT ALL. the staff were ok but there was one member of staff he was Italian and had grey hair "the silver fox" very nice and helpful. breakfast i wouldn't bother going down to get it, I would recommended the Ciao restaurant in Termini or the coffee shops in the area, the restaurant across the road was good food was cheap and very nice. The lift in this hotel is a joke i am a slim girl and even i didn't venture into it, im surprised health and safety officers allow it. the hotel is split with another hotel also which was weird! every morning we were woken around 7am by noises of the bins being emptied with bottles from the shops next door and at night noisy people coming in the courtyard. we stayed in this hotel for 3 days it wasn't even that cheap, the trip was good thankfully it made up for the crap room and hotel. Oh and air con is €10 a day and €10 deposit for the crappy telly remotes. Ripp off.
Alta villa you are the weakest link...............................Goodbye!

“dusty but cheap and location is useful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2010

Booked in as close to station and sites. Cost only £30 per night and for that price had no problem. Room was bit dusty and needed cosmetic repairs but felt safe and had no problems. Walking distance to central rail and convienient for sightseeing. think this was one of the hotels that charged extra to turn on aircon lol

“Ok for the budget traveller, but better deals can be found”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 July 2010

Budget travel was the essence of this extended summer trip, and Rome did come as a welcome change in that the size of the room was larger than what we expected to be the norm in large European touristic cities. That said, there was nothing else worth mentioning other than the fact that the hotel was very close to Termini - Rome's main station, for those travellers who need to catch an early morn / late evening train / coach to other destinations / Rome's airports.
What I didn't like about the hotel is that whilst the room had air con, the control unit was at the reception, and one had to pay an additional 10% on the room rate in order to use it. Our room windows faced the open courtyard which was shared with another hotel and the night we chose to leave the windows open for some fresh air, we were woken early morning with the sounds of bin covers clanging, and bins being dragged across the cobbled courtyard area!!! We had planned to move about & stay in other hotels across the city, and suffice to say that we stayed in better hotels (cheaper and with free air con) ,all of which were conveniently located either close to one of Rome's attractions, with lots of little trattorias around as well as close to a metro stop. Overall, you can surely do better than stay at this place.

“You get what you paid for”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 March 2010

Just the day before we went to Rome I checked some of the reviews on Tripadvisor and I was quite worried. But it turned out, the hotel is not as bad as I thought.

The room and the bathroom were okayish, bit dusty and we had to clean the wooden surfaces on the bedside tables. The business tactic of this hotel is "Have a good website but don't bother with the actual hotel".

The hotel has no stairs, only a lift. When it's busy, one may have to wait for 15 minutes to get ground floor from 4th floor. The staircase is behind an emergency door. We didnt wanna open in the fear of triggering a fire alarm.

A lady, who waiting with us for the lift to take us to the ground floor, suddenly had a breathing difficulty but can't go out to get some air. Luckily the lift came just in time and she managed to get down (don't know what happened to her as we came down in the next ride after 10 minutes!).

Standard breakfast. Nothing to shout about.

The good thing about the hotel is it is quite close to the Roma Termini railway station. There are buses to every part of the city from outside the station. Lots of decent restaurants, coffee shops, internet points and a laundrette! The price is reasonable for Rome/Italian price norms.

If you are able bodied, looking for a city-break and need a hotel just for spending your nights then this hotel is for you. Anything else, shop elsewhere.
