Our stay at Hotel Adas was not a very pleasant one. When we arrived for check in, we discovered that we would have to pay an additional 5 Euros per day to rent the air conditioning! I've stayed at a lot of hotels and I've never had to rent air conditioning in my life. We then discovered that our room was on the 6th floor (as are most of the rooms) and our elevator onlly went up to the 5th floor. We had to lug several heavy bags up an extra flight of stairs. The elevator was small and could not accommodate our bags and us so we had to go in shifts. When we did arrive at our room it was small and clean with a new bathroom. However, the "double bed" was actually two single beds pushed together. Anytime my husband or I would go towards the center of the bed, the beds would come apart. I asked for a room with a true double bed and was told the hotel does this for all their rooms so that every room can accommodate separate travelers as well as couples. The towels in the bathroom are comparable to very large dish towels. The hotel also requires that you leave your room key at the front desk every single time you leave. This is a nuisance as you have to stop on the second floor every time you leave and stop there again every time you come in. It felt a bit like we were being babysat. On our last day, we asked for a taxi to come pick us up at 3:45 AM as we had a 6:30 AM flight. By 3:55, we were getting concerned as the airport was 30 minutes away and we wanted to be there 2 hours prior to the departure. When I went back upstairs to ask the night desk attendent to call the taxi company the holel had recommended, he acted very nonchalantly and told me that I should just wait 10 more minutes even though the taxi was already running almost 15 minutes late at that point. We ended up having to flag down another taxi that was driving by. Note, the hotel had quoted us 49 Euros for their taxi service and the street taxi cost only 40 Euros. The hotel is near the Colliseum so the location is a good one, but there are dozens of hotels in that area so I would suggest you keep looking.

  • Liked — Proximity to the Colliseum and other ruins
  • Disliked — Paying for air conditioning; two single beds passed off as a double bed

I was scared enough to go to Hotel Adas having read the prevoius posts - but had no other choice (the other hotel cancelled our reservation 2 weeks before the trip, and couldn't find anything else). The hotel is 'you get what you paid for', but it was all right. The rooms are nothing special - they are on the 2nd and 6th floor of the buliding. Our was on the 6th (elevator till te 5th). We checked in at 14.00 CET, and checked out 5 days later at 10.00 CET.
The room was all right - with TV, small bathroom (clean towels every day, hairdryer in). Breakfast is usual continental - jam, nutella, butter, coffee or tea).
Great location - 3 minutes from Colosseum and Forum.

My experience was even worse than the other reviewer's experience. It was truly a nightmare. I've just returned from Rome tonight and have been so infuriated by what happened to me and my mom that I had to write this review right away. My mom and I had booked Adas for 4 nights. After 2 nights, my mom had a change of plans and decided to try to fly back home. I was going to stay for the remaining nights. The flight ended up being full and my mom had to return to the hotel. That night, after midnight, we were woken up by loud knocking and yelling outside our door. It was the evening hotel manager (same as coffee Natzi in previous post...yes, we had a similar experience) yelling at us in Italian saying that my mom was not allowed to stay at the hotel. He wanted her to leave right away. We think he thought that we booked the remaining 2 nights for a single person rate and that my mom was trying to stay for free. There was no way we could explain the situation to him. He didn't understand english and didn't even want to try to understand the situation. He got more and more angry and even threatened to call the police. I told him that if my Mom had to leave, I would leave too, but he wouldn't even let me go with her. He would only let me leave if we paid the full amount for 4 nights...basically, he extorted the money from us. We couldn't reason with him because, frankly, at that point we were getting scared of the man. So, my mom and I had to pack up our things and pay the bill. We had to roam the streets with our luggage at 1:30am looking for a hotel, not such a safe thing to do in a city like Rome. After several hotels, we finally found a really nice hotel manager at the Grand Hotel Palatino who phoned several hotels for us and found a room. He also called a taxi for us to get us there. We ended having to pay for Adas and the new hotel rooms for 2 nights.

Please, never, ever stay at Adas and tell anyone you know not to go there. All of the things the previous poster said are also true. It's not worth the risk of getting kicked out in the middle of the night.

The location of the hotel is very good. The standard
of the room is very bad. Our room was smelling very bad from the drain. Some of the staff were helpful, but don't expect much. The breakfast is of low standard, but remember that you are in Italy.
I will give the hotel 1 star.

we got there at midnight only to be told we had no booking and no rooms to fit us in! This was even though we had a print-off stating we had booked.

The guy said the same to the couple infront of us too and they managed to get a room! weird eh? and what made it worse was that he was more interested in looking at ebay!

However, he did manage (aventually and not happily!) find us a room at the Italian B&B which was gorgeous - so after the drama i think we got a better deal!
