“Never again! Insects!...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 July 2011

people found this review helpful

"+" Location is near Termini station - about 5 minutes walk, so it’s close to metro and buses.
Free wi-fi.
Low price.

"-" I’ve seen few cockroaches.
There are bed bugs! (bed insects - cimici). Insects were living in a bed, I’ve seen them a lot, caught them, I’ve seen small blood spots on the bed-sheets and I’ve been bitten.
The Hotel is on the fifth floor of an old multi-apartment dirty building and the elevator is antique and very small, with hand-opening/closing doors. (I was lucky, lift was not broken! In other case I could not climb to the 5th floor with my bag )
Air conditioner for extra payment - 5euro per day
Staff did not speak English.
I was asked to pay for the room for a week upon arrival (at first day)
I was asked and have to leave the room at 10 am (instead of 12 am) in the last day.
The noise from the rooms and reception: I’ve heard all door buzzes and rings to the reception…
The breakfast was budget: bread, jam, butter and tea or coffee, always the same food.
Furniture is very old.
The sheets and towels were changed at once during a week
No shower gel/shampoo, just a small piece of soap
Shower is fixed on the wall pouring all around not me, the shower disperser semi-blocked.
TV has 7-8 channels in Italian, I don’t remember channels in English or any other languages.
Some rooms are located above reception floor and you should go there by spiral stairs (I’ve seen a poor lady who was dragging her suitcase there…)
Bathroom was big enough but dirty: a lot of hairs and smelt bad, toilet bowl was dirty and wasn't cleaned at all during my stay.
The owners are quite rude and don’t care about keeping the hotel up and to make guests feel happy, they.

“Friendly value hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 May 2011

Once one is used to the fact that this hotel/ pension is on the 5th floor it is great value. Friendly staff, balcony with evening sun to read or have a drink(hotel sells them) , very quiet and handy for terminii station which is a hub of all types of transport. Local shops including supermarket. Rooms and breakfast simple but adequate and free wifi worked well even in my bedroom.

“Horrendous!! absolutley vile!”

This hotel must be the worst on the planet.
Staff are the most lazy and rude people i have ever come across. We asked a member of staff for a drink and were told to ask someone else (he was sat down playing with his mobile phone)
The breakfast was a dry cob with jam and butter. A lady opposite us asked for some orange juice and was told point blank NO , you have tea!
We specifically wanted air con, when asked we were told no as this would mean the whole building would have it on. So it was one HELL of a hot night.
A buzzer went off every time someone needed to get in, this went on all night, plus the phone was ringing...we were very close to the reception area, we could hear everything.
The shower door did not close properly and the water was hot and cold when showering.
This hotel had no view, yellow stains all over the floor. The lift was a cage and we were on the 5th floor, i felt sick we were that high up. The TV did not work, The bathroom smelt damp and was mouldy in the shower.
The bed was 2 singles put together.
Please stay away from this hotel, we changed hotel first thing the next day..it was that awful. I am just glad this only ruined one day of my holiday.
The pictures on the website are very very misleading, you will be seriously dissapointed.

“Va bene”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 January 2011

Not bad in general, looks pretty and cozy, the area is opportune for a traveler (10 mins to walk at Termini, 10 mins to reach Piazza Repubblica with SM degli Angelli, + the neighbour Volturno street has several caffé, shops, internet points etc), beautiful overgrown terrace, rather acceptable colazione. Pretty typical balcony.

But beware of night doorman from Sri Lanka!! -- no assistance and loads of 'nothing' talks.

And I saw a cockroach once!

“Excellent budget hotel in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

This was my second stay at the Domus Mea and I was a bit worried before I went that it had gone downhill given some of the negative comments on TripAdvisor but it hasn't. It is a budget hotel so it does not have 5 star services but it's hard to fault at €35 per night including a very basic breakfast and intermittent free wifi. It's convenient for Rome Termini but on a quiet street so traffic noise is low, yet the area seemed safe to me. The walls are thin so take earplugs but the room and bathroom are more than big enough for one. There is a lift so even though it's on the 5th floor getting in is not a problem. The staff are friendly and willing but not IT experts so the wifi was not always available but I was on holiday.
