“Best Location”

We stayed in Rome for one night. This hotel is in a great area right outside the Vatican. The hotel is nice and quiet. Breakfast is a really nice spread. We took the hop on hop off tour bus for 20 euros a person for 24 hours and one main stop is right outside the hotel, since it is in front of St. Peters square. The tour is great, it takes you to about ten main areas in Rome and you can get off and a new bus will be at the stop every 15 mins. One of the stops included the train station, so you can avoid the metro if you take the train in. Any questions about this please email me, its really a great. There are some that you can get 3 days for 25 euros. We booked the Vatican tour with the hotel and it was with the Vatican tour company. Really worth the money to avoid the lines. If I ever went back to Rome I would stay here again.

Step outside and you're right in front of St Peter's. Feels like it's part of the Vatican. Warm room on cold February nights. Quiet. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. To be picky , the (free) internet was slow.

“A wonderful and truly magical stay”

We have just returned from a wonderful stay in the Cardinal Cesi and can vouch for the fact say that it was absolutely amazing! The hotel was literally a few steps away from the Vatican and could not have been better placed to explore both the Vatican museums and the rest of historic Rome. The hotel is on the main road leading up to the majestic St Peters Basilica and is awe inspiring. We felt really privileged to stay in such a place and the ancient building really fitted into what we dreamed for our visit to Rome. We are used to staying in nice hotels but this was something else for us, the Cesi's amazing location and calming courtyard were a wonderful retreat after a hard days walking.

The rooms were quite small, but were perfectly formed and definitely worth it for the fantastic location. The smuggest part was escaping the heaving crowds at the vatican to nip back (2 seconds away) to our gorgeous hotel for a wee and a glass of ice cold wine!

“Fantastic location in Rome”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2011

Recently stayed here on a few-day trip in Rome for business and a bit of sight-seeing on my time off.
The hotel is set back in an old palace-style, with an inner courtyard. The outer gate is locked at night, and you need a room key to get in, so it's very secure.
The staff were helpful on arrival, and showed me to my room. The room was spacious enough as standard - had a double bed, desk with TV, small wardrobe with safe and a bathroom with shower, toilet/bidet and basin.
The room was clean and the amenities were acceptable and provided me with all I could need during my stay. The location, to say the least, was magnificent. Step out the front gate, and 20 steps to your left and you're in St Peter's Square. Also, a 20-minute stroll into the heart of Rome, and 5-10 minute walk to the Ottaviano Metro station, or the St Peter's train station. Plenty of cafés and restaurants around.

I do, however, have some criticisms of the hotel. The room itself was fine. The bathroom was adequate, however the shower was a bit too small for a man of my size (6ft) and I had trouble in it. Anyone of a smaller stature would have no issue. The shower had a bit of soap scum left on the soap rack, which was a little off-putting.
During the first evening, what seemed to be an extraction fan or similar kept clicking on and off at random intervals, and I was unable to find any switch to turn it off in the room. I checked with reception the next morning, and they advised next time it turned itself on, to call down to them and they'd turn it off from their mainframe system.
The curtains would not shut properly, so I was unable to completely block out the sun, and had to dash across the room lest I be seen in an immodest state from street-level.
The sound of water rushing down the pipes either from others' showers or toilet flushing was rather loud in the room, and occasionally woke me at night. In addition to this, I could hear the people in the next room talking through the wall, but not loud enough to hear the content of their conversation.

Having said all this, it was an enjoyable stay.

“Unbeatable Honeymoon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2011

Perfect location, impeccable service, gorgeous room, delicious breakfast, peace and tranquility yards from the Vatican - what more could you want on your Honeymoon? The Palazzo Cardinal Cesi was romantic, convenient, luxurious - all at a great price. This is by far the best value, location, service, and amenities in Rome. I recommend this hotel to ANYBODY traveling in the Eternal City.
