“Hotel RE (aka Invictus)”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 April 2007

The initial problem was that I booked 3 nights at the Hotel RE not the Invictus. There was no Hotel RE at the correct address, this did cause a bit of a concern when we arrived, I thought we had been ripped off! After asking a local shopkeeper, we were pointed to a door to an apartment block, and rang the bell of the only hotel listed, the Invictus. It turns out this was the correct hotel as they had our booking, no explanation on the two hotel names was forthcoming.

Room was great, but aircon did not work and toilet tended to run all night when flushed. Strangest hotel ever, was actually converted apartments over several non sequential floors. Expensive for what it was at £120 per night.

There is a suberb cafe across the road on the corner, does a great breakfast of; freshly squeezed OJ, cafe latte and pastry for €3.30!

Location pretty good, easy 15 minute walk from Termini Station, 15 minutes walk from both Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, 10 minutes from Metro Station at Piazza Berberini.

Not sure I would stay there again

“Comfortable, good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 April 2007

Recently refurbished, clean with all basic requirements.
Evening receptionist keen to help with directing us to sights and warning us about potential dangers in Rome.
Good location, only a 15 minute walk to Fontani di trevi, 20 mins to Piazza di Spagna.
Breakfast room is very small and was full so rather than waiting we went down to a bar opposite the hotel and had our cappucino and briosche (Italian croissant filled with jam/custard creme/chocolate) there.
We found booking with hotel cheaper than booking through other websites.
I would stay again if I was looking for a cheap 1 or 2 night stay.

“Great Small Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2007

The entry area was a little different, having to ring the bell everytime we wanted to get into the hotel, it was a little akward after a night out... Besides this small issue, it was a great little hotel within easy walking distance to all areas a normal visitor would want to see. A taxi ride to most areas was only about 10 euros (max).
One of the guys at reception was specially nice and cheerful, and great on advice on just about everything.
Rooms were very clean, I would definitely stay there again.

“Room alright, service terrible”

I went to stay at this little hotel after reading the reviews about this hotel. The entrance for the hotel was really spooky and dirty!. Once you go to the second floor, you are greeted by the receptionist who doesn't speak english but he was helpful. The room i was in was of a good size( big enough for me to open my luggages) and the room was tidy and clean. Toilet was clean but there are cracks on the tub and toilet sit. But the worst part of the the room was the air conditioning. There was no cold air, it was warm air! I find it difficult to slept and i can't open the window in the room because it was facing the back part of the building which was not a pleasant sight.

I went to complain this to the receptionist ( By now, it's a different receptionist. He is of "Indian nationality" ), he doesn't seem to care about it. He was extremely unhelpful and rude!. He doesn't even look at you when you try to speak to him. Although he does speak abit of english, he is by far the rudest person i met in rome.

The location is good, with lots of good cafe and restaurants around it. There is a nice pizzeria near the hotel. Try the starter " the soute " ( fresh mussel and clams in garlic and olive oil ) It's delicious! Basically this hotel is ok if they hired better receptionist and fixed the air conditioning.
