“Great little find”

We had half-term holiday with 2 teenagers in Rome and stayed at Martina House B&B. We all had a great time. It is a beautiful apartment and so nice to come back after a long day in the city - like coming home to a peaceful oasis. We walked everywhere except when we tried out the metro/bus for the trip back from the Colosseum (which is good value at E1 per person for journeys lasting up to 75 minute trip as far as you like on the metro & bus ... just keep reusing the ticket until the time runs out). Make sure you bring comfortable walking shoes - so that you can really appreciate the wonders of Rome and not be distracted by painful feet! Martina House is conveniently located for everything and yet quiet. Of course we cannot compare it to any other accommodation but understood that most hotel rooms/ bathrooms in Rome are small. The twin room was spacious and the double room was more compact. Although smaller, it was fine and the bathroom was clean and there was plenty of hot water at a good pressure. Breakfast was more than adequate. Martina and her mother are delightful hosts and very helpful.

“Great location and great host!”

Our room was cozy and charming. The doors, windows and floors are just beautiful in this 19th century building. Martina was a lovely host, from preparing a great breakfast to helping with directions and advice on transportation and attractions. We loved the neighborhood. It's convenient to the bus and metro, great upscale shopping and people watching. We would definitely recommend this B & B.

“Charming building but don't expect any extras”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 July 2010

My husband and I stayed at Martina House for two nights in July for our Honeymoon. First, I would like to say that Martina House is very well priced. We were expecting a bit more than we received though according to the Trip Advisor reviews we read prior to booking. The building Martina House is in is wonderful and the elevator is charming. We loved being in an old building and the apartment was beautiful. That being said, the room was really just a bed. The bathroom was large which was a plus. We were pretty disappointed in the breakfast. It was stale bread and cheese one day. And the other morning they added a lemon cake which was pretty good. They also offered some deli meat, coffee and juice. Very basic, but I guess you get what you pay for. Our favorite part of our stay at the Martina House was Elena. She checked us in and was the person serving breakfast every morning. She was extremeley helpful with suggestions of where to go, eat and how to get there. Martina was very helpful prior to our arrival and provided us with directions of how to get there and how much to pay for a cab (they will rip you off from the airport if you just jump in the cab without asking the price). So it was nice to have all of that information up front. Overall, I would say this was an average stay with average accomodations but for the price, you can't complain too much! When we return to Rome we would probably be willing to pay more and try a different hotel.

“Great location - an oasis of calm in a mad (but wonderful) city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2010

We stayed in the family apartment (on via Toscana) a short walk from the main B&B, and well situated for all the sights in the northern part of the city (Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, etc.). A traditional Roman apartment on the 3rd floor, accessed by a quirky lift. The apartment was spotlessly clean and very quiet. We received a warm welcome from the owner, who also arranged our transport back to the airport. The small kitchen was well equipped and there was a convenience store a couple of minutes walk away and lots of restaurants at close hand. The highly effective air-conditioning was a bonus as it was very hot during our visit. Next time we visit Rome, this is where we'll be staying !

“A very goog choice for location and something at bit different”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2010

Martina House is something a bit different, a B&B with four rooms on the fifth floor of a very smart old apartment block. A stylish old lift takes you up to the rooms (we walked up only once). The rooms, breakfast room & lobby are beautifully decorated with many original features. Our friends had a lovely room at the front overlooking the Via Vittorio with a view of the Porta Pinciana & park Borghese while we had a smaller quieter room at the back of the hotel. Both rooms where very clean with comfortable beds.
The location of Martina House is pretty good, 25min walk to the Trevi fountain, The Pantheon & Spanish steps, 45min walk to the Vatican and Park Borghese right on the door step. Martina House is in a good area so you feel safe walking around at night. Good restaurants are close by, we liked La Bruschetta, and San Marco which are both located across the Via Vittorio in the Via Sardegna.
Martina could not have been more charming and helpful, waiting at the front door to welcome us even though we where half an hour late due to a delayed flight. She really put the effort in to make sure all her guests were OK and had everything they needed.
All in all we think we made a very good choice of place to stay.
