We stayed at the regency recently and its definately no 4 stars more like 2 at best.We found the rooms looked nothing like the pictures I think those were taken at a diferent hotel.They were dark and gloomy and for the most part depressing.The so called breakfast in the bowels of the place was nothing more than buns and meat which is ok if youre looking to eat a sandwich at 7 in the morning.The staff was disinterested in their guests from what I saw never smiling and not friendly at one point I asked the desk attendant to call us a cab and she told me I had to do it myself.That would be alright if I spoke ITALIAN anyways stay somewhere else.

This is the worst four star Hotel i have ever in. EVER.
The hotel is very far from everything. The decor and furnishing are cheap and tired. Our room smelled terrible and it was very very noisy. The mattress seemed 20 Years old. The bathroom was very old and grubby. The air condition sounded like a B52 and did not work at all. The staff are hatefull and unhelpfull and the ladies serving the poor breakfast bordering on offensive. This hotel has many many problems. We were extremelly disappointed with the poor quality. The hotel requires a complete overhaul. For us it was a total rip offff.

This place is run down, mouldy and dirty. The staff not friendly at all and necer smile. If you ask any information they always turn the ayes. The poor breakfast was served in someplace that we used to call the " catacombs" because it was situated in an underground hot canteen. The orange juice was 99% water and the service at the breakfast was extremely rude. This old and dirty hotel has no fire prevention system, everything is flammable and the room door lock was a trap. Did not see any panic bars or fire and smoke alarm. It is very very dangerous and if you stay you will stay at your own risk. It is cheep for a 04 star hotels ( but this is not four star, I think two.) but I prefer to spend a little more and make sure I'll be back home safe.

I find it amazing how much the reviews differ. When I was there in Sept 2005, I found the hotel to be fine. The rooms were clean, if basic. The maid who looked after my room was great. The breakfast buffet was okay (fruit, yogurt, a variety of cereals and breads, cheese and sliced meats). The front desk staff were fine. And a big bonus was the balconies, so we could sit outside with a glass of wine and watch night fall over the city.

Overall, the hotel was pretty much as I expected for a reasonably-priced central-Rome hotel. If you go expecting American hotel standards (huge rooms with crystal and marble bathrooms, 50 different hot and cold items on the breakfast buffet) you'll be disappointed, but Rome ain't America. And considering how phenomenally expensive Rome hotels tend to be, I was perfectly happy with this hotel for 90euros a night.
