“Service and Attention”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

I stayed at the hotel from January 26 to January 31 and the service over all is really great, but there is nothing or none that matches service, attention, dedication and compromise with the client than SIMONE DI PORTO and ALESSANDRA COPPOCA, both of them really are committed and love what they do, always aware of what you need and willing to help you. ANd these review is coming from a long term priority club member with Platinum Status, besides the deco of the hotel and overall was good.

Hope to go back to the same hotel

“Hated it!”

This is coming from a long term Priority Club member who has stayed at Holiday Inns around the world.... This was my worst experience. Would you like to hear it? Here it is...

I booked the hotel through Hotels.com for vacation with my wife and on arrival it seemed ok. The overall decor of the hotel seemed to be new, but renovated on a minimum budget. Our first room's TV did not work and as not clean. Hotel management moved us to another room. This was challenging as the front desk staff's English skills were not very good.

Breakfast was to start at 7:00 and many were in line early to eat before leaving on our tours. Unfortunately the breakfast opened late (10 minutes) leaving little time to eat and clean up before meeting the 7:30 am bus.

Finally the real problem. Because I used Hotels.com I paid in advance, had a receipt and verification. But when it came time to leave the front desk was stilled manned by the night shift who neither read, spoke nor understood English well. Thus I had to pay again for the stay. I did this as we were late to catch our plane and I assumed as a Priority Club Member I would be able to easily call their service center and have the fees reversed. I did not have time to argue with someone who did not understand what I was saying anyway. After escalating though the Priority Club and Holiday Inn service lines it took three months for my charges to be reversed.

“Good Value, but......”

The Good: excellent complimentary breakfast with good hours. Decent size room (for Europe), good bedding, good bathroom. Not USA HI-E expectations but good. Internet access in room expensive but I was comp'd due to Priority Club status which I appreciated. Fixed price of 45 Euro to FCO excellent service in Mercedes sedan. "Close" to Metro, but be prepared to walk 3 solid blocks, one uphill. The Metro can get you easily near most tourist sites. Easy train from FCO with stop very close to hotel. I had seen (before we booked) some complaints about train noise. It is negligible and they do not run 11pm-7am. Suggest getting room furthest from tracks if very light sleeper. Was there 01/04-08.
The Not-So-Good: Very few restaurants (or any good) within walking (2) so eat dinner in city. Area looks daunting but really isn't but is still a bit disconcerting. Front desk Staff is at best indifferent and inconsistent. On minute attentive, next minute almost dismissive. Weird. You must be in pretty good shape if you go back and forth to the Metro (more than 10 min per advertising). Probably not stay at this property in the future.

“Would stay there again.”

Stayed over Christmas period and again at New Year for one night on return to Rome for departure.
Standard room, quality bed/mattress, clean bed clothes/towels, fresh state of decor in the room. Housekeeping was very good, every day.
On arrival, I thought reception staff slightly unreceptive, however this improved as time went along and when I returned in January for one night at the end of my trip this was OK.
As per usual HI hotels, great feature is proximity to a key bus service (#16 to Centro Storico). Metro station was a little bit further away, but the bus was better, so no need to go to the metro. Train station was also very close by. Taxi was euro12 with case, from Termini Station, so that is OK if one has to take a taxi.
One would notice their start-up noise in the morning, but would get used to it.
Breakfast was good, never varied in the slightest.
I love Rome, and I have a stayed in a few InterContinental Group properties there over the years.

“Average Hotel”

I spent a week in the Holiday inn Express San Giovanni over the New year Period with my wife. The Hotel is very easy to reach from Fuimicino Airport as it is near the Train Station Tuscolana. The first impression was not very good because the streets are all full of graffiti and very dirty. Next door to the Hotel there is a shelter for homeless people but altough it is not a normal thing to have near a Hotel we never had any problems even late at night.
The inside of the Hotel was a normal standard as any Holiday Inn and the Breakfast was very good and plenty of choice. Just make sure you go down early becasue there is limited space to sit down. The Hotel is 2 minutes walk from the Bus station going to the Centre of Rome and also close by to the Metro station.
