“Terrible Hostel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2010

My friend and I were on a 40 day trip through Europe and halfway through, we stayed in Rome for 4 nights. While in Rome, we stayed in the Youth Station Hostel and hated the entire experience. The temperature was hot and while the hostel said they had A/C, the rooms were well over 85 F at night. So uncomfortable that we had to buy fans just to sleep at night. The rooms were not cleaned very well and the shower was ridiculously tiny and barely usable. Also, the hotel claims to be in a great location, and while it is near the blue line (which is mostly un-air conditioned, hot and smelly) it is no where near nightlife or sight-seeing. Finally, the staff (well not entire staff, but a few of the staff members) were not helpful and down-right rude. I tried to surf the web in the common area after getting home one night around 2 am and was told I was not allowed to be in the common room. I was also yelled at another time for talking too loud while using skype (which I was being as quiet as possible and wearing headphones) and saw the employees get in several (2 - 3) heated arguments with other guests.

Overall, I would recommend you do not stay here and find a better place.

“The biggest is not always the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

Well here is probably one of the biggest but least frills accredited youth hostel I've been to. This hostel is located a tad outta the city, but getting here is not too difficult. A bus connects this directly from Roma central train station and takes you no more than 25 - 30 mins. The place has separate dorms for men and women and there are loads of beds so one has nothing to worry about in terms of availability. Bathrooms are ok in terms of cleanliness but can certainly do with some sprucing up. The Staff is extremely helpful out here. On the down side, I would suggest that you carry an extension cord here as there are no plug points in the rooms.. only in the corridors which is terrible cause you can't leave your phone or camera charging outdoors now can you? The breakfast that comes free is too light and certainly not on par with some of the other youth hostels. Its just a bun, jam and cup of coffee that comes with the price.

“Youth Station Hostel - Piazza Bologna”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2009

This hostel was great. It's in an awesome location with a supermarket right next door and the Metro station is just down the station. At $14 a day you can't go wrong. Its in a very safe end of town and security inside the hostel is top notch plus the staff is great. I highly recommend this hostel if you are planning on visiting Rome. Also, on the write up of the hostel it says that there are cooking facilities, there are but the stove doesn't work, just a microwave, a kettle and 2 fridges and freezers but honestly there are so many places to eat in Rome and in the area you dont need it.

“Staffs here are very helpful!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2009

This is the first hostel I have ever stayed in. It was easy to find and very close to the metro station and bus stops. There is a supermarket right next door so you can buy cheap food and drinks, however, they close quite early (6pm I think). Beds have clean sheets and are not too bad to sleep in. Each bed has a locker to go along with it, pretty secure I must say. Best feature in my opinion was that each bed has an electrical outlet right by it so you could easily charge your electronics without having to leave your bed. Staff here are VERY helpful and will go the extra mile to help you get to where you're going. We have gotten lost many times in the city and we would always call back to the hostel and not once were the staff impatient with us. I've read somewhere they charged for internet, this is NOT true. Maybe they've changed their policies but while I was there all internet were free. They even printed out our boarding passes for free! I know this isn't a hotel but the only complaint I have is the floors and bathrooms are a little dirty so don't go running around without shoes/flip flops on. Also if you rent the towels there, they might stink a little. I know mine did smell like crap lol. Almost forgot, the rooms DO have air conditioning, but sometimes you have to ask the staff to turn it on for you.

“Good place to stay”

I stayed in this hostel for four nights and my experience was just fine.
Hostel is located about 1 minute walk from Metro and bus stations which was very convenient.
I stayed in the "Asia" room. Yeah, it's not wide at all but they do keep the place clean and give you clean bed sheets, also you can rent a towel. There are lockers in the room near each bunk, pay phone, three computers (which were all working during my stay) with internet access that costs 1 euro/hour.
The staff is very nice and helpful. They helped me with directions and choosing the best route.

  • Liked — Clean room, friendly staff, location
  • Disliked — Small shower that leaks
