“Pretty Crappy”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 June 2011

I stayed for 6 nights in Feb and this was by far the worst hostel I stayed in for my entire 4 week trip!
Yes the beds were comfy, but the rooms were dirty, my locker was broken and didin't lock at all so I had no where to store any valaubles and on top of that, they make you leave your key at the front desk when you leave... giving the employees access to your locker which is attatched to your door key!
The shower was alright, very small and not really clean, but at least there was hot water. The staff were rude and unhelpful. Trying to find somewhere to print off an eticket was a nightmare! I was so desperate i even offered to pay 5 euro for the front desk guy to let me print something off his computer which her refused. When I asked if there was a net cafe or something similar he shrugged and said it was just up the street, he wouldn't even show me on the map. When my time came to leave the hostel I asked if I could order a taxi from the front desk as I needed to leave at 4.30am and there is signs all over the reception advising that staff can organise taxis, imagine my surprise when an unresistered "taxi" shows up. This guy didn't even have a taxi license, something I didn't realise until he was 2 mins down the road. And to top it all off the cheeky bugger charged me 100 euro!! This place sucks! Avoid it like the plague!

“Slightly Pricey but safe and clean!”

I spent one night at this Hostel on my way to Florence, Italy. I paid 35 Euros in cash upon arrival, they do not accept credit cards.

It was relatively easy to get to from the Fiumicino Airport in Rome. You just take a shuttle which takes about 45 minutes to the Termini station in Rome, which costs 8 Euros, then you take the metro 3 stops (which costs 1 Euro) and the hostel is literally steps outside of the metro, which is super convenient for getting around a large city. Most things that you will want to see are a few metro stops away from the hostel.

I stayed in a 6 person mixed dorm with an ensuite bathroom. both the bathroom and the room were clean. They provided clean sheets upon check in but no towels (available for rent)

The lockers were quite large, they fit my big suitcase, backpack, purse and camera bag just fine.

The staff was extremely friendly and had much advice about how to get places in the city.

this is NOT a party hostel. Don't think just because its called youth hostel that it is. There are a bunch of apartments above it, and after 10:30 they don't want you making noise, or even talking loudly while smoking out the side door.

the only bad things: They advertise free wifi, but when I got there the internet was broken. Not sure when this will be fixed. Also, to access your room you have a card for entry, which is attached to your safe key. They didn't tell me this when I checked in, but apparently when you leave the hostel you must leave that key at the front desk. They didn't say anything to me about this, so I didn't, but when I returned the night staff told me next time I left I had to leave my key. I was checking out the next morning, so it didn't matter, but this rule could make people slightly uncomfortable if they had their passport, money etc locked in their locker.

OVERALL, as a solo female traveller I felt safe and welcomed here. I was able to conveniently get out and see some of Rome before leaving for Florence and the rooms were clean. Good experience.

“Good hostel, bit far from centre”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2010

Stayed here for a few nights, enjoyed it. Simple hostel, lockers with keys, nice clean bathroom and kitchen area. Not as much fun as advertised on their website, but I'd reccommend it. Bit far from centre of Rome, but perfect for travellers - easy access to underground transport - runs all night!

“Terrible Hostel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 July 2010

My friend and I were on a 40 day trip through Europe and halfway through, we stayed in Rome for 4 nights. While in Rome, we stayed in the Youth Station Hostel and hated the entire experience. The temperature was hot and while the hostel said they had A/C, the rooms were well over 85 F at night. So uncomfortable that we had to buy fans just to sleep at night. The rooms were not cleaned very well and the shower was ridiculously tiny and barely usable. Also, the hotel claims to be in a great location, and while it is near the blue line (which is mostly un-air conditioned, hot and smelly) it is no where near nightlife or sight-seeing. Finally, the staff (well not entire staff, but a few of the staff members) were not helpful and down-right rude. I tried to surf the web in the common area after getting home one night around 2 am and was told I was not allowed to be in the common room. I was also yelled at another time for talking too loud while using skype (which I was being as quiet as possible and wearing headphones) and saw the employees get in several (2 - 3) heated arguments with other guests.

Overall, I would recommend you do not stay here and find a better place.

“The biggest is not always the best”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2010

Well here is probably one of the biggest but least frills accredited youth hostel I've been to. This hostel is located a tad outta the city, but getting here is not too difficult. A bus connects this directly from Roma central train station and takes you no more than 25 - 30 mins. The place has separate dorms for men and women and there are loads of beds so one has nothing to worry about in terms of availability. Bathrooms are ok in terms of cleanliness but can certainly do with some sprucing up. The Staff is extremely helpful out here. On the down side, I would suggest that you carry an extension cord here as there are no plug points in the rooms.. only in the corridors which is terrible cause you can't leave your phone or camera charging outdoors now can you? The breakfast that comes free is too light and certainly not on par with some of the other youth hostels. Its just a bun, jam and cup of coffee that comes with the price.
