Next time I pay 60 euros for a room, I expect to get one with a lock on the door. When I discovered that my lock was broken, all I got for an answer was a shrug from a gormless night staff man who told me to 'prop a chair under the door'. I don't appreciate the fact that nothing was done about it (or a discount offered). I paid for a private room expecting a measure of security, and got less than I would expect from a dorm.

A warning to all travellers - DON'T GO TO THIS HOTEL. I travelled to Rome with my friend in June 2005, we had booked this hotel before we travelled. It was dreadful. We specifically asked for a twin room and when we arrived we were given the "Matrimonial Room". I cannot for the life of me believe that anyone would want to spend their wedding night in that room! It was dirty and noisy. There was no toilet roll. No towels. The old man on the front desk when we arrived did not speak English and was very rude.

We asked to be moved in the morning and they put us in another room on the ground floor that was about 4.5 ft wide! It was like a broom closet! The hotel is not cheap (we paid about £75 per night) and the service is diabolical. When we returned to our room on the second night, the old man started yelling at us in italian demanding that we pay! We refused and said we would settle the bill on departure, to which he threatened to call the Manager. We said "go ahead". He didn't call the Manager but it left us feeling quite upset and frightened.

And just to finish it off, I left a skirt in the closet and when I got home I called the hotel and they told me I must come and pick it up! Not for all the tea in China!
