I wanted to write this review asi have travelled a little bit and stayed in some great places and some bad places and more often than not you are more let down the more money you pay so a 5* hotel you are expecting to be amazing turns out not to be and a hostel you check in to cos you have no other option in africa turns out to be amazing.
I checked in to this place as i was moving to rome and was searching for a long term apartment let in the city. I thought i would stay in th ehostel one night, search and find my apt in th esame day and then leave to move in to my new dig the next day.
I arrived at the hostel early doors, paid 21Euro (owner just said give him 20) and was given my keys. I had booked to stay in a sharing room for 8 people as this was the cheapest and i just neeeded to stay one night. he put me in a room with 3 other people, 2 of which were checking out as i arrived. This place was not busy but if you know rome you know there are plenty of hostels around, especially so close to Termini (main train, bus and metro station)
The beds were made and they even gave me a clean towel as i didnt have one having just arrived from london.
the whole place was clean but i chose not to spend time there. There was no internet but there were plenty of clean and functioning bathrooms and toilets. one of th ebathrooms had obviously just been refurbished.
I always say that what makes an average place a good place is the service and the two guys seemed a little cold to begin with but i made an effort and they seemed nice enough. This was proven the following day for me and i wanted to write a review that was a) current, and b) fair/constructive as most people feel compelled to rave or slate places ontripadivsor which i dont think helps anyone.
On my first day i didnt find an apartment so had to look the following morning. The guys said checkout was 10am so i had to decide to book another night or lug my kit around with me looking for a flat - no chance. I agreed with the guy that if he looked after my bags until 3pm that if was not back to put them in my room and i woudl pay for another night. I did this co si felt i coudl trust them and thats important in this area of rome where thieves are everywhere. I called him at 7pm and explained i had found somewhere and that i was coming fo rmy bags and to pay him and they said not to bother paying them. normally you would have been stung for your money anywhre inthe world but these two guys didnt, they kept an eye on my stuff as promised and overall i was pretty impressed given ive had worse customer service in a hotel costing 10 times the money i paid there.
at the end of the day im not sure what people expect these days, for 20euro i expected to have an uncomfortable night in a dump from some of the reviews i read on here but it was close to the station and everything was clean and fresh. My only gripe would have been to have wireless there.
hope you find this review helpful.
