The hotel website claims to be in the picturesque area of Trastevere, going so far as to call itself the "In Trastevere B&B" and posting a vague map featuring three Roman sites and positioning itself in the centre of Trastevere. This is a blatant attempt to mislead honest tourists looking for accommodation in this lovely area.
The taxi driver from the airport had never heard of the address and spent most of the journey from the airport veering around the motorway with his head in his A-Z of Rome and denouncing that this street was definitely not in Trastevere. Once we arrived, we knew he was right. We drove through streets of high rise council buildings with graffiti daubed all over the walls and threatening iron gates leading into dark courtyards.
Once we managed to locate the front door of the B&B with no help from the hotel staff, we were greeted by a sour faced, exhausted Russian girl who was clearly the sole representative of the alleged 24 hour reception service. The room itself was clean and modern, an unexpected surprise given the location and exterior appearance of the building. However it turned out to be a good 20 minute walk and tram ride from Trastevere itself and 30 mins from the town centre.
We also had to put down a deposit for front door keys to let us into the building if we wanted to come back after 11pm so that the receptionist could go out partying on the Friday night
Rome was beautiful as always but you don't want your memories of the timeless buildings spoilt by the sight of run down tower blocks after a day sightseeing.
The fact that the website only shows pictures of the bedrooms and bathrooms is for a very good reason. Don't stay here - keep trying those hotels in the centre of town!
