“Lovely Place to Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 July 2008

Firstly you should ignore the 1st review about this place...the one which goes on about a hotel, this is clearly not refering to Casa in Trastevere!

This place is lovely, hidden in the back streets of Trastevere, and only 10 / 15 mins walk to all of the major sights, it is a great place to stay. We have been to Rome many times and have stayed in a number of different apartments located in the centre, none have been as good as this one.

I would say that the location was the best thing, the fact you can sightsee during the day but when you come back to the apartment you are away from the crowds. Obviously you have Trastevere on your door step, this is prob a 5 min walk away so just far enough away to be from the throughfare. Saying that I would say that on some occassions there was a little bit of noise but compared to staying in town it was nothing.

The apartment was clean, fresh, and we had 2 bathrooms which was great as there was 4 of us sharing the place. The bedrooms were spacious and clean.

I would also comment that apartment didn't have any air conditioning which made for it being very warm at night. We did have a particulary hot week, every day being 30 -35 degrees so hot in fact we had to buy a fan! Air conditioning would just make this place perfect!

I would defnitely recommend this place to stay in Rome.

“Clean, spacious and few tourists!”

We stayed in Casa Trastevere because of the wonderful things we had heard about the owner, Marta, the unique Trastevere location and size and comfort of the apartment.
Rome is one of the greatest cities in the world, but its main drawback is that it is almost always full of tourists. Trastevere is a lovely part of Rome full of great restaurants and picturesque scenery where Italian families and young people live and work. It's authentic Rome without the tourists and all of the unpleasantness that comes with that.
When we arrived (family with 2 children ages 12 & 14) Marta met us at the apartment which is nicely located on a quiet street. She is warm and sweet and was eager to help us find a good restaurants. She also gave us a nice itinerary and oriented us with the public transportation system. She gave us her cell phone number in case we needed anything.
The apartment is large, comfortable and clean. The bathrooms are modern and very nice with plenty of hot water and pressure. The beds were comfortable and everything was fresh and clean.
The area is fabulous for excellent dining without the tourist glitz and prices. The streets are narrow and winding and filled with interesting shops and scenery.
The apartment is located near the Vatican and one can easily walk across one of the many bridges to the center of Rome. We are active and used to walking, so it was not a problem for us to walk any where in Rome although public transportation is convienent as well.
I would stay at Casa Trastevere again and recommend it to my friends looking for a nice, quiet, spacious apartment in an authentic Italian neighborhood.

“The ugly side of Rome”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 October 2006

The hotel website claims to be in the picturesque area of Trastevere, going so far as to call itself the "In Trastevere B&B" and posting a vague map featuring three Roman sites and positioning itself in the centre of Trastevere. This is a blatant attempt to mislead honest tourists looking for accommodation in this lovely area.
The taxi driver from the airport had never heard of the address and spent most of the journey from the airport veering around the motorway with his head in his A-Z of Rome and denouncing that this street was definitely not in Trastevere. Once we arrived, we knew he was right. We drove through streets of high rise council buildings with graffiti daubed all over the walls and threatening iron gates leading into dark courtyards.
Once we managed to locate the front door of the B&B with no help from the hotel staff, we were greeted by a sour faced, exhausted Russian girl who was clearly the sole representative of the alleged 24 hour reception service. The room itself was clean and modern, an unexpected surprise given the location and exterior appearance of the building. However it turned out to be a good 20 minute walk and tram ride from Trastevere itself and 30 mins from the town centre.
We also had to put down a deposit for front door keys to let us into the building if we wanted to come back after 11pm so that the receptionist could go out partying on the Friday night
Rome was beautiful as always but you don't want your memories of the timeless buildings spoilt by the sight of run down tower blocks after a day sightseeing.
The fact that the website only shows pictures of the bedrooms and bathrooms is for a very good reason. Don't stay here - keep trying those hotels in the centre of town!

  • Liked — The cleanliness of the rooms
  • Disliked — The location and misleading website - totally unromantic
  • Tips/Secrets — Be suspicious if the hotel website only shows pictures of the inside and make sure to check the location of your hotel on a detailed map.
