I stayed here for a week in June 2011 with my 18-year-old daughter. Rome is great of course. This apartment is well situated as other reviewers said (and it's true the oldest review must refer to a different place) - just across the Tiber from the main historic centre, as the name Trastevere says. Ten minutes stroll from the nearest bridge. The owner, Marta, met us, showed us the place, left us her mobile phone number and left, which was fine. I had noticed the curious fact that she'd emphatically said: "to get hot water, just turn on the tap" - as if this was some outlandish novelty. ...Bear in mind please this was a very hot summer week. There was indeed hot water - for the first half of the holiday. Then no more. I sent a text message requesting action. Very promptly received (while out and about) a message saying the water had been restored. We went back, to shower, and sure enough - no hot water. This process was repeated 3 or 4 times (though at no time did any more hot water appear). Each time Marta would assure us that she had been round and fixed it - I was impressed with her promptness, if not her effectiveness. Finally it was too late, so I sent another message, requesting a partial refund since the lack of hot water obviously impaired the quality of our stay. My suggestion was a refund of 30% of the rent for each of the 3 days we had lacked hot water. She was of course free to make a counter suggestion. Guess what? All those prompt replies to earlier messages were replaced by total silence. Ever since then she has simply not replied to any message. Looks as if her thinking was: "now they're out of the country I can just keep my head down and forget about decent business behaviour". Left a nasty taste in the mouth, spoiling what was otherwise a great holiday. So: if you want a nice and handy place to stay in Rome, by all means stay here - but just keep your fingers crossed that everything will work throughout your visit. I'll go back to Rome, but not to Marta's joint.
