We arrived on a Sunday afternoon after a white knuckle ride from the airport. Radu was at the front desk to greet us with a helpful hand and easy charm. Our room was large, spotless and modern. The hotel is a 15 minute amble to the Trevi Fountain; my partner and I walked to and from all the major sites of Rome (The Vatican was a reach).
Be advised this hotel is not a Holiday Inn or a Marriott (thank goodness). This is a Bed and Breakfast writ large. It's small, charming and quirky. The hotel has less than 30 rooms, and what a plus that is! It's as if the staff works exclusively for you. Internet service is intermittent, but the staff worked tirelessly to get us online (Stefano, the owner explained that the hotel's location close to the Department of Defence is the cause of internet problems). After some initial glitches we were up and running for the balance of our stay. The hotel is located on the 3rd floor, getting to the floor means a ride up a small lift. Sometimes, users would forget to close the doors prompting a call up the shaft "Hellooooo Hellooooo!!"
Something else - the rooms have unusual towels. Don't be put off! They are top quality cotton. They do the job, and dry quickly so if you need to shower twice in a day - you can count of the towels being dry for the second time around.
Nothing makes a trip to a strange city more relaxing than knowing that you have a comfortable base of operation - thanks Stefano and staff for providing us with our "fortress of solitude" - how corny is that!
