“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 October 2006

The owner was not living on the premises, which seem to be in a residential block. The private bathroom is not en-suite, as I was told when booking. The breakfast, self-service was juice, coffee, cornflakes and a bag of croissants. The 2nd day of our stay we returned from sightseeing to find our room had been moved! Our last night there was ruined by the arrival of a huge group of rowdy, noisy guests, who kept us awake until the early hours, despite our requests for quiet. The residents were banging on the ceilings and shouting for quiet. They emptied the milk and juice from the corridor fridge and filled it with their food. Obviously, as Marco was not around, there was nobody to help us, and we returned home shattered, having had NO sleep. Never again!

“Left With No Room At Late Hour”

After much trouble trying to get in touch with Marco, 3 phone calls from us to someone who could not understand us, plus email from states by my daughter and phone call from my neighbor we arrved late to Rome, because of air traffic controllers strike, and he had no room for us. He had credit card number and with all this info and we arrived around midnight and had no place to stay. That was a shock and totally unnecessary. I would not recommend him to anyone as he is not to be trusted.

“Never trust Marco manager of ABA Roma”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 May 2005

We were delayed by the Italian air traffic controller strike and knew that we would not be able to check in to ABA Roma, 113 Via Sciopioni, on the day booked. We called several times to Marco know of the problem. We reached a young lady there who did not speak English and were asked to call back later; we called 2 more times unsuccessfully. We then called a friend in the USA and she sent an email stating that we would be in late the 2nd night and to hold our reservations for the entire time (we had rented 2 rooms for 3 nights). She received a reply back from Marco that he would. We also had a friend call Marco to say that we wanted the rooms held for the entire reservation time (4 days) and he told her he would hold them.

We did arrive late (0100) only to find that Marco had rented our room and wasn't going to come down to talk to us. My husband went up and got him to eventually come down to talk. His breath smelled of alcohol and he became angry with us for being late. I can understand this but circumstances were beyond our control. After talking for over an hour, he told us he had one of the original rooms available and agreed that 2 of us could stay in the single twin bed room. After multiple calls he arranged for us to stay with his sister for the next night for 180 euros. My husband then went out at 0230 to take pictures earlier than he expected...becoming one of Rome's homeless for a night. It was disappointing that Marco had not kept his word. We were willing to pay the entire fee for both rooms, including the night we unable to reach Rome.

The room was clean as were the linens. Breakfast was available and adequate. There was a group of 3 private bathrooms and ours was clean and with a locked door.

Marco did arrange for us to stay with his sister for free for the last night, arranged for a taxi to pick us up at a designed time. After the mixup, we were uncertain whether to trust Marco regarding these arrangements; we made reservations at a hotel for the last night. The Emmaus Hotel near the Vatican was wonderful!

“This was the only bad part about Rome [well, maybe excluding the heat ;) ]”

I stayed here with my mom and sister from June 25th till the 28th. I felt fortunate to find a place to stay so last minute, for some reason it was very hard to find hotels/B&B at that time. The price for a triple was 90€, air conditioning and breakfast included. However, we did not end up staying at the place that was agreed upon, which should have been Via degli Scipioni, 113. Instead, we were taken to Emo 58. It was a second-floor apartment and the explanation i received was that this apartment was "a friends" and the other place was booked. This part of town had graffiti on the facade of the buildings and looked very dirty. I was assured however that the place was safe. I walked around at night with my family and it seemed to be. The "air conditioning" listed both on the website and in an e-mail was no more than a fan. The apartment was dirty and our "breakfast" was a half opened box of corn flakes, milk, oj, and a pre-packaged bag of stale croissants. Then, the boiler broke and we didn't have hot water for 3 days. My mother complained and we received a 40€ discount for all our troubles. This place is not recommended to anyone unless they just need a place to sleep for 6 hours or so. It is not a place you can stay and feel comfortable in. The only good thing was that it was indeed located close to the Vatican. It was also relatively close to a metro station.
