“Clean budget hotel near the Vatican”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 October 2011

Great clean comfortable accommodations. Good value, free wifi, good location (a few blocks away from the metro station and from the Vatican). There is a supermarket half a block away and a great little gelato place down the street. Our room had a sink, closet, decent bed and a view of the street. The shared bathroom is clean. There is a coffee and water dispenser that offers unlimited drinks in the hallway. They offer bicycles but the tires were flat so we couldn’t use them. I would stay here again when visiting Rome.

“Excellent budget hotel in Rome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 September 2011

This hotel is great value for Rome. It is walking distance to the Vatican and close to a metro stop (so you can get to the colosseum etc). It's also right next to a pizza takeaway place, a small supermarket and an ATM in a secure neighbourhood. They will send a taxi to pick you up from the airport for 40 Euro which is also worth taking advantage of (most ordinary taxis have never heard of it and have trouble finding it so bring the address and directions if using another taxi). The room was a good size, particularly for Europe (i.e..you could actually close the door and still be standing in the room), it had air con, and the shower was hot with good pressure and was a separate cubicle with a door so you didn't get water everywhere (all of this is REALLY rare in Europe budget hotels!). The room was also very clean, well kept and very nice for the price. We did have one of the nicest rooms with an ensuite but we peeked in other rooms and they seemed similar (although some had no air con and/or no ensuite). The staff were overall very friendly and helpful. Some of the towels were too thin, but they were always large. There is a lift (also rare for Europe budget hotels) but it is very small. No breakfast, but there is a free cappucino machine. Wifi is free and good. I would definitely come back: it's a great place to use as a base to explore Rome.

Room Tip: If you go in June-Sept, get a room with air con.

“Great little hotel in a superb location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 September 2011

I decided to end my backpacking trip by splurging on a hotel in Rome for my last few days. It turned out to be not much of a splurge as (in September at least) this place cost only 10 euro more a night for a double with ensuite than my bunk at a higher end hostel. One of the reviews below mentions cab drivers not knowing the hotel, but this would be true for many smaller hotels in Rome, bring the address and you'll be fine. It's actually easy walking distance from the Metro even with bags anyway and the train from the airport drops you right on the metro line to the place anyway. Choice of room levels, bigger and smaller, lots of neat little cafes nearby and all of a 5 minute walk from the Vatican museum and barely farther to St. Peter's. Five minute walk to the metro as well which will easily take you to any other sight in rome. Cappucino machine in the hall as well as filtered water (a lifesaver in Rome's heat and cold drink extortion market.) Basically a clean, well kept place to have a relaxing quiet sleep to recharge.

Room Tip: The double I had on the interior courtyard was quiet and air conditioned, really pleasant.

“Great location, helpful people, good cappucino”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 July 2011

Our family of 4 liked the hotel and room - very secure, good cappunico machine saves time from going outside for this, near train station Octavviano and Bus Stop and 5 min walk from vatican. Helpful staff for directions - we enjoyed taking public transportation - the adventure. The rooms were kept clean . When you look out of the window you see Rome as a city that you would live in..loved it. Will go again sometime.

Room Tip: Book in advance..

“Not for everyone, but we loved it!! Families: they have a quad!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

Things to know so you go in eyes wide open: None of the cab drivers knew this hotel. It is located on the 3rd floor of an apartment building with an antique, small caged elevator with unwieldy doors. I'm not sure you can walk down the hall with your arms outstretched. Some rooms use the toilet in the hall. They do not serve breakfast. There is a communal automatic coffee/tea machine in the hall.

We booked this hotel in an attempt to economize for at least part of our 2.5 week trip to Italy with our 2 daughters, age 11 and 16. One of the main reasons we chose this hotel was that it had a quad. The gentleman led us to our room, which contained a full-sized statue of a Roman woman holding a drape to herself as if surprised after a bath. Our guide said, "This is the fifth person..." with a shy smile. The statue was an endless source of amusement to my daughters, who clothed it differently every day.

I saw 3 staff while I was there, and they seemed to also do cleaning and laundry. They all spoke good English and gave excellent, non-touristy recommendations for eating. And they were quietly warm and intelligent. They also will to do guests' laundry for a fee.

Several reviews mention the cafe across the street, and for good reason. Everyone in the neighborhood seems to get their coffee and sweet roll there in the morning. It is a lively scene with very nice shopkeepers. I wish wish wish I had such a place in my neighborhood!

I fell in love with Rome because of this neighborhood. Across the river, there was a crushing flood of tourists choking every street and driving the Romans indoors. But around the hotel, it was business as usual.

Our room was just fine. The beds were on the firm side, but not remarkably different from other beds we slept on in more expensive hotels. There was a mix of towels, terry and linen. And the whole hotel is clean. Two delightful touches to the common areas were a ceiling "fresco" and a collection of frog figurines.
