“Bed, breakfast and a breath taking view.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2009

Looking for a good deal in Rome during a school holiday is difficult. Finding the Bed and Breakfast Orange garden was a real find. The B&B is part of the Atlante Star Hotel based further down the road. You must book in and out at the hotel, but don't worry the walk is short and you can get help from the bell hop with baggage.

We booked a triple room which consisted of a single room, double room and bathroom. all were well lit and clean. The decorations were neat and clean, my son wanted to know if we could cover our walls with a padded clothe instead of wallpaper. The service was unobtrusive, all rooms being cleaned everyday with new sheets and towels being provided. There was a minibar, television(both rooms) hair dryer etc.

Breakfast was served in the main hotel's restaurant, with a wide range of fayre available and a most wonderful view of St. Peter's. The staff were friendly and attententive.

The location of the Orange Garden B&B is certral to St. Peter's and all the major locations in Rome. We did not need to take a taxi or bus once we had arrived.

I have had a brilliant time staying at the Orange garden hotel.

For me, the service and ambience is of utmost importance. I was particularly impressed by the friendly employee who helped trundle our luggage down to the apartment in which we were staying - despite the late hour of arrival. Every morning we were greeted by lovely and friendly staff in the hotel restaurant. The buffet breakfast was delicious, with varying variety; the views superb. With a very early morning check-out, the friendly man behind the desk was quick to help us negotiate early morning city travel.

The location was also fabulous - within walking distance of many city highlights - and also easy access to public transport. Many restaurants in the area made for a lovely quick access to great cuisine.

The only downside, was that the spajets didn't work in our spa bath.

“friendly atmosphere in good location”

we stayed in the B&B during the week after easter. We really loved the location, which is 2 minutes by walking to st. peters square, where we took a stroll every evening after dinner. The staff is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast in the hotel with its stunning views is a great start into the day. Some nice taverns and restaurants in the vicinity and a bar with live music around the corner.
We would definitely stay there again

Like others, we booked this room via Romeby.com and were aware that we needed to check in at the adjacent Hotel Atlante Star. What we didn't know was that the room would not be ready for us until long after advertised! We ended up leaving our bags at the AS and playing tourist for three hours... and to our dismay, upon our return at 5:00 p.m. the room still was not ready. Okay, something of a minor cavil, but when the desk tells you the room will be ready in an hour, and you returned four hours later and it STILL is not ready, well, that is disconcerting.

There were other neglected details which detracted from our enjoyment of the place. Apparently the housekeepers work a full shift at the AS, and then turn their attentions to the Orange Garden afterwards. On one occasion, this meant most of the clean towels had been used in the main hotel, leaving us B&B folk with yesterday's towels.

But the scariest feature turned out to be the private bathroom (we paid more for this; the other rooms share one in the hallway). As it appears in the photos, it looks quite nice, and sports a jacuzzi. When we were there, the jacuzzi was non-functional, which wasn't an issue, but it was is a state of disassembly, leaving huge gaps between the sides of the tub and access to its inner workings. It also now sported a one inch plastic drain hose that ran from the tub, up over the shower bar, across the room and then down into the sink. A Rube Goldberg device, for sure.

To make matters worse, I suspect that the problem was somehow electrical, because the the light switch cover had been removed, providing frighteningly easy access for wet hand to exposed wiring. This wasn't a midnight experience I wanted to remember Rome by, so I covered the gaping hole with six bandaids to prevent electrocution.

I'm not against B&Bs, and have enjoyed them often elsewhere. But this seemed more like a series of apartments somehow owned by the Atlante Star's owners, with virtually absentee management or help.

The room otherwise was fine-- albeit a bit dark. If you want a lot of help or advice from the front desk, this is NOT the place for you. If you want a room all by yourself, with more flaws than should be expected from allegedly professional management, look elsewhere.

“Very happy with the Orange Garden”

I had some concerns about staying here because of a review I had read. As it turned out, all was fine. There was a driver waiting for me when I cleared customs and he waited while I checked in at the Atlante Star Hotel and then walked me and my luggage to the B&B (1/4 block away).
There are orange trees in the courtyard but this area is not well groomed. However, my room was clean and quiet and more than adequate. I had daily maid service and a great breakfast on the 6th floor of the hotel. There was phone just outside my room and I felt safe, even though there were no staff on the premises.
The jacuzzi tub did require 2 clycles of hot water to fill it, but after a long day of walking, I took the time to do so. It felt wonderful...bubbles provided.

I felt that I got a good value. This was a very reasonable place from which to see Rome.
