“Fine, but not what we expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 November 2010

We stayed three days in Rome at Navigator Hostel. When we arrived, we thought our taxi got wrong because there was no sign of the hostel. We rang the bell, enter the building and didnt know where to go (it was a huge building with a nice patio in the middle). Luckily, a man came downstairs to look for us. The hostel is located in an apartment. So there are three or four big rooms, only two bathrooms and one kitchen (where it was impossible to cook due to its size and the quantity of people in the hostel). It was far away from what we were expecting according to the price... but apparently this is quite common in Rome... The good part is that all restaurants in Italy are excellent, so we didnt matter we couldnt cook at the hostel

“The worst hostel I've are been”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2010

If you have a bit more money, please spend it on another (more expensive) hostel! This is truly a hostel from hell. It's dirty; the beds are bad and also very dirty! And you can't sleep because of all the noise. I toke the effort to write a review on this because I want to save anybody from ever go to that place!

“Avoid this hostel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 August 2010

I had booked Navigator for three nights and when we came to check-in, we were told that the hostel was closed because of some reasons and later we found it was some legal issue. We were told to stay in a temporary place that was literally the basement of a building with hardly any light, foul smell in the bathrooms and no privacy. I would strongly suggest to check the availability of the original Navigator Hostel before booking because it seemed like a livable place.

“Set your standards low”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 May 2010

My 4 friends and I stayed here in September 2008 and it was terrible! The hostel is far away from public transport, and lugging our huge backpacks there and back was agonising.
Once you're inside, you want to leave straight away - the place is dark and feels a lot like you're in a brothel.
The manager had ZERO people skills. He couldn't speak any English and he was so rude to us the entire time we were there. The bunk beds were alright, but there wasn't much place to put your bags and don't even get me started on the bathroom. The 'bathroom' was so TINY! And they expected 6 people to share it! The shower was so small you couldn't bend down to pick your shampoo up off the floor.
We had an amazing time in Rome despite the Navigator Hostel, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it. We stayed there because it was cheap and we got what we paid for!

“Not as bad as the other reviews say.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2010

This hostel is only one metro stop from Termini but I had difficulty finding where it was exactly because the directions aren't very clear but once I knew where it was I realised the metro entrance is a mere 2 minute walk away.
One of the staff is super super friendly, but some of the others are not. The room is very dark and you can't tell if its night or day ever. There's no lock on the door which I don't mind but the staff keep walking in all the time and because they don't give everybody keys, they just let anybody in who rings the doorbell which sometimes is ringing all night. So loud!! And you can hear it everywhere.
There's only one bathroom so that can be a pain if the hostel is busy. There are four computers with free internet but while I was there, two were broken and then the internet went down completely.
I had to leave pretty early on the last day and the guy was in the bathroom for a full half an hour so I couldn't shower before I left nor get my deposit back for my keys. Annoying.
It's only a five minute walk to the Colosseum and other sights from there and there are a few Irish bars in the vicinty which were especially good on St. Patrick's Day. This place is great if you just need somewhere to cash after busy days and nights out in Rome but if you like to walk all day and sleep all night, maybe not so much,, the bell was too much for me all night when I hadn't passed out from drinking.
