“Far from world heritages, but nice for business trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 February 2011

I stayed there two nights for my business trip. It is located far from Roman world heritages in the embassies' area in Roma, so I think you would use a taxi from Termini station. Breakfast was included in the room rate and a cup of hot cappuccino was served in the morning. My room was large for one person furnished one king sized bed. I couldn't see any dogs which someone reported on this web-site. I felt it was comfortable and happy to stay in Roma.

“Good value for money”

I've been at hotel fenix 2 or 3 times on travel trips. The place is nice and clean, and the staff is extremely kind and helpful. Breakfast is ok. Rooms (the ones I've seen) are nice, even if not-so-big. Beds are comfortable. Recommended.

“Hotel for Dogs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2011

My wife and I stayed for over a week at Fenix. One night we were awakened at 5am by clattering on the floor above, and dog barking. Upon inquiry, we ascertained that the floor of the room above us was uncarpeted, so dogs could stay in it with owners, and possible messes could be cleaned easily. The lack of carpeting magnified every noise from above (our room was carpeted - it was a small suite, and expensive). Breakfast was very good, and the staff helpful and bilingual, although we received no reduction for the dog barking problem. The laundry service was very good, and our room was well cleaned.
Fenix claims to be 'centrally-located,' but it is several km from the tourist attractions, none of which are around Fenix. Via Nomentana, a few steps away, has frequent local and express bus service. Fenix promised 'garden views,' but the garden could hardly be seen from our suite.

“THe worst hotel i have ever experienced, nearly ruined our whole stay”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2011

This is the first time I have been compelled to write a review and I am a frequent traveller. First of all this place is in no way at all a four star hotel!! I would rank it more of a 2 star, maybe 3 but thats pushing it. The room was so tiny, there was barely enough room to walk round the small double bed. We had one pillow each and they had to be folded as they seemed to vanish under your head they were so thin. The bathroom had no bath, but a shower which made this terrible screeching sound and would spray in all directions. The Tv was a small old fashioned one with no english channels. The man at the desk was not very amicable at all,. just to give you an idea, we missed breakfast and were told we could have a coffee and a pastry at the bar, ( which consisted of one small table and 2 chairs), I was given a cold pot of water for my tea, an expresso instead of a cappucino and we gave up waiting for our croissants after 20 minutes.
We were able to laugh about it at the time but it was not a comfortable or welcoming place to stay and I feel i should warn others before they make the same mistake.

“Good value, but more like 3*”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2010

Stayed here for a long weekend in December. Not sure it should be classed as a 4* hotel, probably more 3* than 4*.

The good:
- location is ok - a few good restaurants nearby and only 10-15 euros for a taxi in to the centre of Rome. I would recommend booking an airport transfer car though - only works out 5-15 euros more than a taxi and a lot more comfortable.
- reception staff are relatively friendly and helpful.
- relatively cheap.

The bad:
- a guest (or local resident) was allowed to walk around the hotel with 2 big dogs unleashed which wasn't what you would expect.
- the airport transfer I had booked was for an agreed price. When it came to getting out of the car the driver asked for 10 more euros than what had been agreed. To the staff's credit they reimbursed me for this though.
- apparently it's illegal for them to provide an iron to residents... so they can charge 7 euros for ironing the sleeves of my wife's dress.
- on check out they had marked our bags for the wrong room so took an extra 10 mins to find them.
