OK where do I start?!!!
Arrived in Rome after a lovely flight with Jet2, to be told off by the transfer people!!! (consorzia - dont use them they are hopeless - make your own way to the hotel its very easy!).
We arrived at Pinewood and greeted by a lovely receptionist - who as soon as we told her our names, she went straight onto make a phone call, we knew at this stage that something was very very wrong!!!!
After she had finished on the phone we were told that the hotel was full and that they had thought we had cancelled our booking (still unsure why they thought that as it was part of a package deal with Thomas Cook and we were not told we had to reconfirm before we travelled).
She did however offer to get a taxi to take us to a nearby hotel (it was absolutely throwing it down at this point).
So..... we were told to come back in the morning (anytime???) and we would have a room for the night.
So.... we got a taxi to a nearby hotel - when we arrived there we were told that they only had one room left and so we didnt have much of a choice here!... the room was the room that looked as though they had used it for guests to use as a 'shower room', it was so run down that we thought we were actually staying at the Colleseum!
Nonetheless, we dropped our luggage and off we went to Rome - where we had a fabulous day sightseeing.
We then went back to the Pinewood at 10.00 am, the other hotel told us we had to check in after 2pm but we had a trip booked at 12.00 noon so we had to take our luggage somewhere. Imagine our surprise when we arrived and they told us our room was ready!!!! considering the check out time is 11.00 am - maybe our suspicious minds told us something was not quite right!
Anyway... they had tried to redeem themselves by being very helpful and leaving us a bottle of red wine (not sure if that was standard or not, but was very nice!).
The hotel overall is very nice - you get what you pay for and the breakfast although a little boring was sufficient.
Its on the the main route into the centre of Rome (Bus 49) and you can get around very cheaply - 1 euro per ticket or 4 euros for a pass.
Dont let this put you off as we were quite happy with what we got (eventually!) but I would recommend phoning the hotel to confirm before you fly!
Oh and as said previously if you can make your own way to the airport then do, as the transfer company were over an hour late, even though we had been told the day before what time they would be coming... luckily the driver drove like Lewis Hamilton and we just made it - although we werent seated together!
Rome is unbelievable, its cheap to eat in the right places and we had a lovely weekend. Be extra vigilant with your belongings and you will be fine, we had no trouble at any time and there are plenty of police around at the main sights..... enjoy xx
Room Tip: We had a room on the 2nd floor which as a double didnt have a balcony. Not sure about the rest but c...
