“Wonderful stay, awsome sevice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

My sister and I stayed at the Villa Tassoni for two and a half weeks in August, and we loved it! The room itself was extremely spacious (2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and a full kitchen) and the staff was eager to help us in any way that we needed. My sisters room had a water mark on the wall, looked like someone upstairs had run over the tub, and the hotel actually had her room repainted... now thats service lol.
The area was great very easy to hop on a bus that takes you 2 blocks from the Spanish Steps. Easy to get to and from all attractions and a safe enough neighborhood, we would go for evening walks and never had any problems at all. Around the corner from the Villa was a small fruit store and the woman who owned/ran it was wonderful and the produce was amazing.
Free internet was a huge plus to get work done away from home. The only down side was that there is absolutely no TV, they have a satalite but the only english cannel was CNN, that and the beds were not really what we expected, they were more like cot matresses not the most comfortable sleeping but not horrible either...oh ya and when they say 'coffee pot' they dont mean the regular coffee pots that we know, so I strongly advise taking instant coffee if you want a descent cup of coffee while you are there.
All in all I would recommend this hotel and would definately stay there if I ever go to Rome again.

“Minimalism at its best”

I stayed in Villa Tassoni for a week. What a nice, clean, and quiet place in the busy/noisy eternal city! It is located in a residential neighborhood. It only took 10 minutes walk to Cipro Metro station and 15 minutes to Vatican City. The hotel provides very simple and essential services. The room is spacious and clean. Bathroom has a soaking tub with a shower head, toilet and bidet, and of course a sink. Living room has a 17” TV with cable (one BBC English program), a small kitchenette, and a day bed. Covered porch has a refrigerator, a dining table and a desk. There is a walk out balcony outside the porch. The room got cleaned and new towels were provided everyday. The high bandwidth Internet was included without extra charge. There is always one hotel staff on duty at the first floor office. They speak good English and were always very helpful. I really like this place. It made me feel that I was back to my peaceful home after a day of busy activities.

Concerns: For folks of XXL size, the bathroom and the tub might be too small. The mattress is way too soft for people with back problems.

Travel tips: 1. Get a Roma Pass at Ottaviano Metro station. 25 Euro will give you free accesses to two museums and three days of unlimited public transportation. The best part is that you don’t need wait for long lines at Colosseo and Roman Forum. 2. Metro is faster and easier than buses (my experiences); 3. Book a trip to Pompeii/Naples through hotel staff (115 Euro with lunch); 4. Beware of the scams. Don't book Vatican museum ticket online! It is only 15 Euro at the door; 5. Ask hotel staff to make a reservation (by phone) for you if you want to visit Borghese Gallery.

Food tips: 1. “Bar Virgilio” on side street Via D. Galimberti (across from the hotel) has good prices for sandwiches and other pastries); 2. Buy food as locals do at Carrefour supermarket (across Cipro station behind a parking lot); 3. Going up the hill a little bit, you will find a pizzeria and a Chinese restaurant. Both are pretty good.

“LOVELY HOTEL IN GOOD LOCATION, BUT ROOMS DISAPPOINTING”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2010

We were not impressed with the rather cool and unfriendly reception we had at this location. The bed was very uncomfortable (not a double base set), the kitchenette was very poorly equipped and falling apart and the shower cubicle something to laugh about. I could hardly fit into the shower which had folding sides, and I am a lean person.

“Not brilliant but would recommend and stay there again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2010

My new wife and I were there for 2 and a half weeks in September / October 2010. We chose this place because of the price and location. We werent expecting a 5 star experience and it wasnt. There was no dishwashign detergent, no tea towels, when we arrived the frodge needed to be defrosted and the staff were far from friendly (they were polite however). Despite these small issues, the positives far outweighed them.

The location was great, 15 min walk to the vatiocan. People on here have mentioned the 'steep hill' - honestly, it's not that bad at all. Maybe if you elderly is may be an issues I guess.

The rooms were small but comfortable. The bed's were great. We were on the 3rd floor and had no street noise. There are laundry facilities which were handy including a dryer. The Pizzeria and bakery around the corner were brilliant. Had lunch nearly every day at the bakery.

Despite the minor issues already mentioned, I would stay there again, no question, and recommend it to my friends.

By the way, for the tech geeks like me, the high speed internet mentined is hardly high speed. You'll download at about 600k/sabout adsl2+ speeds. But hey, it was free and reliable.

“When in Rome ....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010

I spent many hours researching places to stay in Rome and found that accommodation was either unbelievably expensive or of a poor quality. There didn't seem to be anything in between and for a family of six I wanted a reasonable price but didn't want to stay anywhere that wasn't safe, clean or comfortable. Then I found Villa Tassoni .

Excellent price, lovely clean comfortable place to stay and safe in a a nice area of the city. We booked 3 suites which they gave us together on the 1st floor. Worked out brilliantly. The kitchen area and fridge were absolutely perfect for us.

The staff were friendly and very helpful and we couldn't fault the place at all.

The only improvement would be if it was closer to the main tourist centre of Rome. The walk back up the hill was fine but at the end of a long day walking and sightseeing it took it out of you somewhat. We could have got the bus but chose not to so that was our decision but it was only 10 minutes from Villa Tassoni to the Metro station and 20 minutes to the Vatican Museums.

The Pizza restaurant up the hill was delightful and both shops just before it were great for pastries, rolls, milk, bread, drinks etc.

I would definitely stay at Villa Tassoni again, no question.
