“Better than expected”

After reading some of the views on Trip Advisor I was not expecting much from this hotel but it was surprisingly clean and comfortable and was good value for money. Despite a central location our room was not noisy and we slept well. An intitial problem with the bathroom was sorted out speedily. The breakfast was average but adequate. I would stay here again if in Rome on business. A good reminder not to be put off by other's comments.

“DO NOT STAy AT THIS 'HOTEL'. PLEASE TAKE THIS ADVICE.”

Should not be called a hotel. Horrible, dirty, noisy, very grimey. I actually feel sick thinking about the breakfast offerings: Warm ham, warm long-life milk, hairs on our table, a floor that hasn't been cleaned for years. This place is the worst place I have ever stayed in. The room is like something from the early 1970s with noise from the street to keep you awake all night long. We were so releaved to get home, which is very sad after a vacation to somewhere like Rome. Oh yes, I almost forgot, toiletries and expensive shampoo stolen from room. Horrible, horrible place, please take this advice and stay clear of Hotel Repubblica.

“The best thing about this hotel is the website”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2010

WOW! Prior to going I had read reviews that said it was dirty. I was apprehensive. Not sure it was as dirty as it was old and in great need of renovation. The wall paint was atrocious in yellow/orange faux paint. The pictures were brown water stained. The stairwell wall was peeling and in need or repair. The bedside table glass was broken. Furniture was old, chipped, closet coming apart. There was a wall plug at the end of the shower that was coming off and you could see the wires behind. Not a comforting thought if you took a shower.....so we didn't. Yucky! Day staff was very friendly. Night staff not so much. Looks like they remodeled the first floor. Haven't progressed any higher. Good location but needs a lot of work.

“worst hotel ever”

i travelled to rome with a large group of people from school. our tour guide was good friends with the owner of the hotel and assured us that it was a 3 star hotel.... it was FAR from it. to get to the lobby, we first had to climb two sets of stairs (one set brought you to hotel augustea's lobby). from there, the we had to check in at the very cramped lobby. after check-in, we had the option of taking a run-down lift and climbing the ridiculous marble stairs. the lift couldfit no more than two people and their belongings. i went up on the lift and i feared for my life! once getting to the rooms, we found that they were very unkept and some doors didn't even lock. that night we went out on a walking tour of the city and upon returning, a bunch of people's things had been stolen out of their rooms including ipods and cameras. while in rome, i came down with strep throat. we were on our way to dinner after spending the day touring the city when i decided i was going to head back to the hotel and rest. my roommate had the key and i only realized this after returning. much to my dismay, when i asked the woman at the desk if she had a spare key, she said no. she explained to me that her boss had all of the spare keys in his office which was locked because he was out of town. i could not believe it. I DON NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE!

“tatty, old fashioned, scary”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2009

unfortunately our accomodation was booked and paid for BEFORE any reviews were read. The photos here are not hotel Repubblica, they are hotel Augustea which shares the same entrance, you go up a flight of stairs and are faced with two hotel receptions. The bedding and room was clean but very very shabby, broken furniture, TV not working, torn wallpaper. We had 4 mish mashed coat hangers from various shops for a double room. Breakfast was totally inexcusable, cups stuck to plastic table clothes, stale pastries and rolls, no dessert spoons, had to eat cereal with a teaspoon! no glasses, just white plastic disposable cups.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone
