“Luxury isn't what makes this hotel great.”

My family and I booked this room in Dec 2011 through AA Vacations and I honestly didn’t know what to expect. I knew that it was centrally located as I have been to Rome plenty of times before this trip. As a matter of fact, I grew up in Rome. From the get go, this isn’t a luxurious palace. The rooms are more than adequate but the bathrooms are a little on the small side. But like I mentioned previously, space and luxury isn’t what makes this hotel great. The location of the hotel and quality of the staff is what makes this a truly great place to stay. The staff was beyond helpful, they were warm and welcoming. Any question we had was answered professionally. I felt as though I knew these people for years. Getting around the city was as easy as stepping out of the front door and walking to where you need to go. Being next to Piazza Barberini makes it easy if you want to take the Metro around. My family preferred to take Taxi’s around which cost about 5-10 euro depending on where you needed to go.
The rooms have in suite refrigerators which make it convenient if you are traveling with children or want to bring a panino or tramezino back to the hotel room. The rooms are turned over every morning. When we came back from a day of sightseeing with the kids our beds were always made and the bathrooms spotless. When you leave your room in the morning there is always a concierge sitting in the lobby to assist you in your travels. Because I grew up here I did not require one, but I saw the American tourists who did not know Rome as well as I did benefit from this service the hotel provides.
We did not get a breakfast package with our room but there are so many Bar’s around Rome anyway. You can go to a place across the street that sells coffee and a variety of Italian breakfast pastries and sandwiches. If you’re a smoker they have a “Tabbacheria” or Tobacco shop at the back of the bar to purchase cigarettes.
When we return to Rome later next year, we will be staying at Residenza Antica Roma again. No doubt.

Room Tip: If you can, pick a suite as it has more room.

“GREAT HOTEL with AMAZING location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

best part of this hotel is the location! close to everything! we literally walked everywhere (colloseum, spanish steps, trevi fountain, forum , palace, took subway to vatican city) ! also a block away from the train station. so easy to get around in Rome. Safe area to walk around at any time. English speaking staff. room was small but adequate and nicely decorated. good views from our balcony. quiet room. good hotel for the price we paid. I would def book it again if the price was right. location location location!

“Not the best”

Location is fantastic. We were there for 4 nights in October 2011. We had two rooms- one was moldy and in disrepair. Our view was scaffolding...The last night we had to change rooms and the difference was night and day! Wish we had the second room the entire time. Second room had a quaint balcony. The breakfast was not good. The cheese was pre packaged in individual plastic slices ( like Kraft)..certainly not what I would have expected in Italy.....only boiled ham on the breakfast too....Staff was hot and cold at times.....Can't beat the location- minutes to the Spanish Steps/Trevi Fountain and the metro....If we go to Rome again, I would look for another place....

“Nice hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 October 2011

We stayed here in September 2011. The location and can't be beat - Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and metro stop are only a few blocks away. Colleseum is maybe a 20 min walk from hotel. The room was small by US standards but comfortable. We stayed on the 4th floor and with the window open at night, it was pretty quiet and with the window closed you couldn't hear any outside noise! Bathroom was quite large. We found the staff to be quite helpful, even made us a dinner reservation. The elevator was quite entertaining, as it is probably the smallest one I've ever seen and we couldn't fit in it with our luggage, which got a ride of its own in the tiny elevator. Rates were quite reasonable. We would definitely stay here again.

“Adequate but won't stay there again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 October 2011

The room was adequate & clean but we didn't get a requested wake up call and it was difficult to find staff. When the staff was available, they were helpful but we felt like we were being pressured to order a cab in advance and to buy "hop on hop off" tickets right away. We could easily have walked down the street and bought them onboard and we would have had a chance to decide among a number of options rather than just one company. The building was being repaired so there was scaffolding and netting in front so we couldn't see out the windows and it was a little unsettling to have a workman right outside your window when you got out of bed.

Dear Guest,
the missed wake up call was due to a system fail, purely technical problem. But we are realy sorry about this issue. We can be proud of the availability of our stuff, if you didn't find them sometimes it's due to departure -arrival time. The reconstruction regards only painting of facade, no noise is produced and the scaffolding will be removed in few days. Anyway we are sorry if your travel wasn't comfortable as you aspected.
Kind regards
Vitaliy
