“A Hotel with character!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

This hotel was so different as it was actually a monastery at one time. It is very old, but has so much beauty and character. The hallways are massive with a beautiful view. Our room was a good size for 3 people and the bathroom was very large. It is a little out of the way, a couple miles from the train. There are a few great restaurants nearby and my daughters and myself felt safe walking at night. They also had a pretty nice continental breakfast each morning. Very pleasant and helpful staff.

“AWFUL!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012

Very misleading photos. I had a reservation in Jan. 2012 for 3 nights. Cold and creepy, dimly lit entrance. I was taken to a room on the left side of the hotel. There were 4 or 5 large garbage bags piled in the hallway with dirty towels. The furniture in the room was old and damaged. The shower had mold. No security latch on the door. A 12" tv from the 70's with a dirty remote. The smell of urine in the bathrooom. I went down to talk to the man at the desk , he offered no concern. He told me I must be tired or hungry and to read the reviews everyone is always happy. He pretty much dismissed me with his rude arrogant attitude. There would be absolutely no refund... I gave him the room key back & left, he said nothing. Terribly disappointed.

“What a cool hotel!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

The history of this location is unbelievable! The property is almost 2000 years old, has been owned by the emporer's mother, served as a monastery, and houses relics from the crucifiction of Christ! Check out their website, and stay here if you're looking for a very reasonably priced room in a safe neighborhood, just a little off the beaten path, with a ton of history.
The rooms were HUGE (15 foot ceilings) and very clean. The bed was resonably comfortable and the staff kept the place clean. We had a room that overlooked the monastic garden, and would open our double windows to see priests strolling through it in the morning and evening.
The included breakfast was adequate but not fancy. Yogurt, juice, breads, spreads, american coffee and tea, fruit - just enough to get your day started until your first lunch break.
Don't let the hotel's location on the city map discourage you - it is within walking distance to just about everything, including a nearby metro. We walked home from the Vatican with no trouble, since there is SO much to see and do on the way. The colisseum is just down the road. Don't forget to check out the Basilica attached to the hotel - the architecture is beautiful, and the relics are said to be from the actual crucifiction of Christ. Be respectful of those on pilgrimages, as this is a holy spot.
The friendly, english-speaking staff can arrange a number of day trips and guided tours for you at a resonable price - we went to Pompeii for the day - definitely worth it. They will also hold your bulky key for you so you don't lose it during the day.
I would recommend that you stay here at least once. You won't get the frills of some other, more expensive hotels, but it will certainly add to the quality of your Roman experience. You will feel like you're a part of the history, not just staying in some hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms that face the garden or rooms in the front had nice views of the neighborhood.

“Good for families but far from center”

we stayed at domus sessoriana during christmas 2010 , parents and 2 kids ;it is actually a converted monastery ,adjacent to a church which makes for an eccentric stay ;rooms are very large and very comfortable and breakfast adequate ;the property is very large ansd you can wander to the roof terrace for an interesting top view of the surroundings ;staff is helpful ; the location is somewhat distant from sightseeing areas and you have to use transportation or lengthy walk ,not a palatable option in winter ,specially with kids ;that was the only drawback .

Room Tip: take the quads ,they are huge !

“Nice, clean, spacious rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

This is a great place to stay with a family, we had a very large room, 2adults x 2 children, the rooms are basic but perfectly adequate. The staff are very friendly, we found the breakfast delicious. 5-10 min walk to Metro station depending on kids. Bus stops very close. Would definitely stay there again. The rooftop was great for evening meals brought back to the hotel.

Room Tip: This is a good option for families, lots of space in our room, it is basic but clean.
