“Perfect for What We Wanted for our Snowy Weekend Away!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I had read a lot of reviews that had said that this was by no means a 4 star hotel.. Which I have to admit it wasn't. But at the same time this hotel was absolutely perfect for what we needed. We went on a weekend trip to Rome (Friday to Sunday), with a view of seeing all the sites & therefore never intended on spending much time in the hotel. It provided us with everything that we wanted - a comfy bed, a clean bathroom & breakfast in the morning before we went out. The rooms were very small, but came with a large wardrobe, a safe, a TV & a minibar. The bathroom was by far the best bit, it was large & very clean, with big fluffy white towels and a heated towel rack (which came in so much use as the weekend that we went just so happened to be the weekend that it poured with snow in Rome for the first time in 26 years..). The breakfast wasn't to my taste as I am not a fan of any continental breakfast to be honest but it had all the standard things & still had bits that I would eat & was enough to keep me going until lunch time. We didn't see much of the staff, but from what we did they all seemed very polite & friendly. When we requested an extra pillow & an extra blanket they were more than happy to help.

One of the main points as to why I would recommend this hotel is for its location. It is within walking distance of a lot of the attractions, all except the Vatican which we took the Metro to & then walked back. It is right next to the Termi Station also, so even if you do not want to walk, you can easily get a bus, a train, a taxi or the metro to any location that you want. Also there are some fabulous restaurants nearby.

If you read some of the other reviews, yes they will moan about the flakey paint around the hotel & the rickety old lift that can only hold 4 people at a time. But at the end of the day if you want a hotel that is relatively clean & comfy, in a very ideal location then I would recommend this to anyone.

“Ok hotel for a low budget vacation”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2012

The staff was friendly, cleanliness was average. Air conditioning didn't work properly. Breakfast was very poor. The hotel is close to the central station, central location, and good restaurants around, although quite shabby area during night.

“Perfect Location!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

I booked this as "Secret Hotel" with the promise of a 4 star rating... Although it is clearly not a 4* (in english terms) it certainly made up for it's lack of amenities in other ways. I too read the reviews prior to departure and must say I was somewhat concerned as to the negative points but it was booked and my partner and I were looking forward to seeing Rome (having never been before) and although I can see the point of some of the reviews if you take it that you spend most of your day outside soaking up the culture the lack of "finesse" in the hotel is not worth worrying about. To start with the location is FANTASTIC, as if like us you don't speak the lingo, having your hotel within a stones throw of the main bus, train & tram station is a bonus, because it all starts and end here and all you have to remember is that you need the Termini! The reception staff were very helpful and cheeful and our room was clean and not a bad size (how much room do you need?) and the bathroom was clean and the shower very invigorating... We had a fridge and the maid service left us clean towels every day which was a pleasant surprise. The breakfast was continental but where in Europe is it not? There was fresh rolls, cereal, cheese, ham, juice and pastries - more than enough to get us started ready for the marathon that we walked everyday. Overall, if you go knowing that the hotel is NOT an English 4* and concentrate on Rome itself I think you will be pleasantly suprised - One word of warning though - everywhere is Pizza, pizza, pizza so unless you like PIZZA be prepared to be sick of the sight of it by the time you get back! I only hope you enjoy Rome as much as my partner and I did - and who knows, if you threw your coin in the fountain, you may one day go back - we will certainly book the Champagne Palace again when we do.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front on the 4th floor, which was perfect!

“Champagne Palace”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2012

Well ....It was listed as a 4 stars hotel and i don't see why. That is a two stars hotel top. It clearly needs a fresh paint, it's old and in some parts dated and somehow dirty. The room was Ok, with a fridge, though noisy because mine was on the street. Bathroom was nice size and clean. Was on the second floor, my choice. There is a Tiny elevator... Breakfast was no thrill.
But it is located close to the Termini station, which is very convenient. By the way Via Principe Amedeo as a lot of other hotels options.15 minutes walk to the Coliseum, Half one hour walk to Campo Fiori, 20 minutes train ride to the Vatican for example. Have plenty of little restaurants and shops around the hotel. Was traveling alone and as a female I thought it was OK in terms of security even though the train station is not super friendly at night. It is half an hour by express train from the airport which is great.
And Mr Massimo at the front desk was indeed very very nice and welcoming.

“Great hotel in a great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

We stopped of at Termini and was at the hotel within 10 minutes walk, perfect, Outside it looks dated and old, but as you walk up the marble stairs it is lovely. We was early but they didn't mind, gave us our keys, explained we're we were on the maps on the counter and answered any question we had giving directions to any place we chose. The room was quite small (hey were in rome, when qare we spending time in the room right?) but very clean, tv and a nice bathroom which was also very clean (something very important to us) a huge wardrobe and nice comfy bed. It was exceptional value for money. All staff night and day we're very helpful with any requests we had. We struggled making a booking in a restaurant and they booked the table and we had no problems whatsoever. The Restaraunt is on the 7th floor, no problem. lift heading up and down and the breakfast, although simple, i loved it, cheeses' ham, bread, coffee, orange juice. i would definately reccomend this hotel for the price. Not 4* but if your staying in your room in Rome, you should be asking yourself, why have you come to Rome?
