“A wonderful hotel in a perfect location”

The Lumiere di Piazza di Spagna was a small hotel with lots of charm. The hotel is situated near the Spanish Steps and is in walking distance of many great restaurants, shopping and activities. The hotel served a wonderful European style breakfast in a sunlit roof top dining room. The staff was wonderful and connected us with a wonderful guide to take us to the Colleseum, Forum and St. Peter's Basilica.

“Poor Poor Service”

Location is the only good thing about this hotel. Yes, it is in a great location, however, there are definitely hotels in the same area that you could find for a better value. Upon our arrival, there wasn't even a bell boy to take our luggage to our room. And because the elevator can only fit two people, we have to make about 5 trips up and down just to get all our luggage to our room. That was the first bad taste in our mouths. Then, it is our first day there, we are extremely excited to get started touring the city, so on our way out, we ask the manager for a map and maybe some recommendations. Her response was, "Everywhere is good." She was too busy speaking with another employee and we got the picture that obviously THAT was more important then helping us as we stood there. The rooms were ok, definitely outdated. And when we were leaving the hotel, we were told that we owed money toward the broken shower head. The shower head was about 50 years old, we didn't break it, and they charged us for this. This definitely put a completely negative taste in our mouths. We felt as though you spend all of this money to stay at this hotel, and then they charge you for a shower head? a- that we never broke and b- it needed to be replaced anyway. There was no manager to speak with on our way out, and we needed to catch a plane, so there was nothing that the employee working at the desk could do for us. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone. Horrible Horrible customer service.

“La Lumiere, little hidden treasure!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 May 2010

I recently stayed at La Lumiere during a business/leisure trip to Rome. I was so very pleased with La Lumiere.. after seeing few pleasant reveiws on trip advisor I was initially hesitant, but this hotel turned out to be one of the best hotels that I exerienced during my 3 week sojourn through Europe. Lu Lumiere set a wonderful tone and high standard in all important travel areas. Location, Staff, Room Comfort, Staff and Cost

1)Location.. the hotel is literally a stone's through to The Piazza di Spagna, wonderful shops of all sorts from Gucci and Prada to local neighborhood shops where you can have a great gelato or buy local wines and othe goods.

2) The staff was amazing especially Letizia. They staff was always pleasant and extremely helpful. Within a day of booking my hotel they sent me a welcome email and began corresponding regularly with me regarding my trip and potential needs. They arranged a driver from the airport who although my flight was nearly 4 hours late.. was patiently there waiting with a personalized name placard when I arrived. When I saw the Coliseum I gasped! It was so amazing to actually see it and the driver who recognized my response pulled off and offered to take a picture with me in front. I will always treasure this first picture which began my experience in Rome! I left my translator book in the car and the driver returned 2 hours later to return it to me!

The hotel itself provided me with excellent point to point directions to my business site locations and to every other venue that I desired to explore.. all of which were in walking distance of the hotel. If you are up for it, there is no venue that you cannot either walk or easily train to.

The rooms are in the traditional Itlaian style and very welll kept. The rooms are clean and the breakfast area is very lovely atop the buiding. My linens were comfortable and crispy. The Jacuzzi shower was a plus at the end of the long day.. and the room was spacious enough and very relaxing.

I believe the room was worth every euro and would stay there again, especially in the room with the small terrace, which was great for relaxing after a long day in Rome.

The LaLumiere Hotel is a little hidden treasure. I am so happy to have found it. I think you too will be pleased.

“Location is excellent, Hotel comfortable but worn”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 December 2009

Can't beat this location for general an overall Roman visit. Many things are within walking distance and the subway is nearby. Hotel was also very good at getting us a taxi that was safe and fair. After cutting the meter off, one taxi tried to demand more than as was appropriate and the hotel owner had a few words with him on our behalf and we paid less that what he demanded. Staff recommendations and directions were on very accurate and it was easy to communicate with everyone at the front desk. The entire staff were friendly.

The beds were very comfortable but the baths were a bit cramped but serviceable. Breakfast in the hotel was very good and on three occasions, the staff even fixed us a free box of snacks when a morning trip started before the breakfast area was open.

Only issue was that that the rooms were dusty and needed a little better attention to detail in the cleaning.

“Pass On This Hotel”

There are much nicer hotels in this area for the same money. This property is extremely over priced for what it is. Be warned that if you do stay here - the beds are extremely uncomfortable. If they are full, you will find they have no extra pillows (2 per room total) no extra sheets - ours didn't get changed for the first 4 nights we were there. The refrigerator and TV in the room did not work. The breakfast is pitiful and only provided from 8-10:00 AM - you WILL be scolded if you show up late! We had the same dead fly on our bathroom floor for 5 nights. The day front desk staff is very nice and helpful, but the night staff is down right rude. The air conditioning does not get the room cool. It was basically a huge disappointment. I heard other guests at the front desk with the same complaints we had.
