“Well located, quiet and cosy - a smashing little hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2011

I took my Dad to Rome for his 70th birthday and I'm so glad we stayed here. We had a walk which took longer than expected from Termini and were a bit frazzled when we arrived. I could see my Dad visibly cheer up, lighten up and chill out as we were greeted warmly by the twinkly owner, and whisked down the parquet-floored corridor to a cozy and charming room. The location is spot on for sightseeing - 2 mins to Spanish Steps, 5 mins from Trevi Fountain and probably 9 mins to Pantheon. But the best thing was how quiet it was. You could hear a pin drop at night (or raindrops - it poured). This was a real find and I'd strongly recommend it. Simple breakfasts are served in the room.

“Value, location and charm.”

I stayed at the Hotel Suisse for 4 nights in early October with my elderly mother. The hotel is located near the top of the Spanish Steps on a quiet street. You do not have to climb the Spanish Steps as there is an elevator just inside the Spagna Metro station that takes you to the top and very close to to hotel. Alternatively, you can walk past the Spanish Steps to the right, take a side street and approach the hotel from the bottom of Via Gregoriana. It is only a few meters up the street. We were able to walk to most of the major tourist sights and had easy access by Metro to the Vatican. The hotel was right in the middle of abundant shopping and restaurants. I was very pleased with this location. As others have said, the hotel is on the 4th floor of a mixed use building. It is more like a pension. Once inside, the reception and common areas are charming and furnished with antiques. The staff is very helpful and provided assistance with maps and directions, restaurant recommendations and advance ticket reservations for the Vatican museums. We had requested a quiet room facing the inner courtyard and slept very well with our window open at night. The room was spacious (by Rome standards) and we had plenty for room to unpack and stow our luggage. The room was furnished with charming antiques and had a beautiful parquet floor. The bathroom was modern but the shower stall was very small and awkward to get in to. I can see this being a problem for a large person. Continental breakfast was delivered promptly each morning and the OJ was fresh and the cappucino was hot. The price was right in city where hotels can be expensive. I will stay at the Hotel Suisse again when I am next in Rome.

“Great place, Great Location”

Loved this place. We stayed here for 4days with our 3 children (10, 7 & 5yr olds). The location is just perfect, you are literally behind the Spanish Steps, close to the Metro and all of Rome's wonders. Considering location, cleanliness and attentiveness by the staff I would say that the price was fair. Agree that it's more like a b&b than a hotel, but that is not a negative comment. There was always someone available at reception to help with anything we needed and we felt well looked after throughout our stay. Signor Nelson at reception is a gracious and attentive host and helped with all our enquiries. Continental breakfast is ample - the juices and cornetti were fresh each morning and the coffee always delivered hot. Our room was clean, comfortable, air conditioned, furniture very well-maintained & the bathroom big and CLEAN. As for a previous comment regarding noise and uncomfortable beds all I can say is that the 5 of us slept like babies and hey you're in Italy - are you really expecting quiet?? A Wonderful stay at the Hotel Suisse and recommend it highly.

“Quaint hotel in a great location!”

Hotel Suisse is a charming little hotel just steps away from the Spanish Steps. It was a little difficult to find, initially as they don't have a large sign outside, but it was worth the hunt! Our room was very comfortable with air conditioning that worked well, and a large, spacious bathroom with a small balcony off of it. We were served breakfast (pastry and coffee) in our room as there is no real dining area in the hotel. Everyone there was friendly and helpful with restaurant suggestions and tourist attraction ideas. There was always someone at the front desk, which gave us a nice sense of security. We really enjoyed our time at the Hotel Suisse for it's friendly staff and wonderful location.

“Uncomfortable beds and noisy outside!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 July 2009

Great location with beautiful antique furniture, as other reviewers have mentioned. But for me the most important thing in a hotel is a good night's sleep. Not at the Hotel Suisse. We stayed in two different rooms and the beds were hard as a rock! I woke up feeling like I could have been sleeping on the gorgeous parquet floors. Also, I did not appreciate being woken up at 7 am by construction workers outside. There appears to be a lot of renovation going on in the area - check before booking to see if a quiet room is available! The breakfast consisted of croissants, coffee and OJ served in the room - there are better places in Rome at similar prices serving full buffet breakfast. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful (booked a table for dinner), but overall I have to say I was disappointed and I won't stay at the Hotel Suisse again.
