“Don't go there!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 February 2010

The room we were supposed to stay wasn't that bad, but the neibourhood is very scary!
And unsafe! There are a lot of people drunked and most probably veeeery 'high' that are staying outside the hotel.Inside i found a very promiscouse woman that seemed to be at the reception, because thare are a few 'pensioni', not only 'Valentini.
The advantage is that is near to 'Termini station' and it is quite cheep, but you'd better go to via Cavour where there are a lot of hotels, expensive, but if you book before, the prices are affordable. Be very carefull if you go to Valentini, and there is not a place to go there with your children!
I prefered to pay a night and find another place to stay in Rome.

“Ok place...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2009

Stayed at Valentini last year and got the immediate feeling that it was quite seedy. A young guy came to meet us in the elevator. He was ok, but not very custumer friendly. An older man was with him, who appeared to be a bit weard. That turned out to be the owner.

The rooms were quite big and allright. They did not feel super clean however, nor did the house it was located in. We did not feel safe enough to leave or belongings there. We carried our valuable thing with us whereever we went (not good, I know). Luckily we did; one day when we got back, the room was unlocked. Probably the cleaning lady who had forgotten to lock, but anyway, not acceptable.

The breakfast was a supertiny cup of coffee and a croissant.

The location was ok. It was on the seedier side of Termini. Very central though, but not very safe.

“Nice and simple”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2009

On the arrival I was greeted by a very nice girl who worked there. Since I took a cab from the airport, I didn't have enough money to pay the room, but it was no problem to pay it the next day.

I got to choose the time I wanted breakfast and what kind of coffee, juice and crossaint I wanted. In the morning she brought the breakfast to my room, and you can look at the picture of what it looked like.
I like to have something sweet in the morning so I loved my breakfast. The coffee wasn't what I expected, very little but very strong, so I understand why it wasn't a big cup ;-)

One thing I had a small problem with at first was the door to the B&B. I struggled with the key to get in for about 45 minutes... I where just about to call mr Valentini when I got it open. Because I where sure that the key didn't work.
But the reason was quite simple, I hadn't poshed the key deep enough.

To mention the safety, I felt safe inside the B&B, as for outside... Well, I went outside on late evening and didn't have any problem in the area. However, it's close to the central station (Termini) and there where some "odd" people hanging around there. But I have never visited a big city without those kind of people near the station.

Regarding the language (as you might have figured out), english isn't my first language, and the girl who worked there didn't speak very good english either. But we could deffinatly understand each other well using body language as help to the english.
Mr Valentini was even worse at english, but very nice and helpful! As I discovered most italians are not so good at english, but mr Valentini was way better than the staff in the grocery store.

On the day of me leaving, I got to leave my luggage in the room after checking out, and they helped me with calling a cab, and did also wait with me to make sure I really got it.

It's almost one year since I stayed here, and there should have been some changes. If I remember correctly they should have a breakfast-room now.

Luckily I hadn't read the reviews before I booked my room at Valentini. I read them about 2 weeks before I where going there and thought about change place.

So I was really happy with my stay here and next time I go to Rome this is where I'll stay!!!

“Not so good! Doesn't feel safe.”

This B&B is like a big apartment block, there is no reception & there
was a guy waiting for us as the front entrance when we got there. He showed us to the room but very little English meant we had terrible trouble communicating.

The room itself was fine. Bedroom area was a little grubby but the bathroom was spotless. View from our window was 4 exterior walls!
The TV had NO English speaking channels. And....

We were visited by the police on our 1st (and only night there) it was pretty scary as once again lack of English speaking personel was a bit of a problem for us. Turns out in broken English that the hotelier does not have a license to have guests stay there at the moment, so probably best to avoid this place until he does!

On a good note location is pretty good, it is very close to Termini Train station which is excellent if you have an early morning flight or train to catch as you can walk there in less than 5 minutes. Cavour Road, close by, is good for restaurants, shops etc and is also a good route to get to many of the tourist sights, Colloseum is maybe 15min walk away via some lovely picturesque churches and buildings along the way. The general area is NOT nice for wandering about late at night and I wouldn't recommend this B&B for Single travellers or women as it is quite intimidating.

We paid about £50ish for the night we stayed there but I think this is a bit over priced to be honest. Also although this included breakfast - it arrives on a tray, croissant, tiniest glass of hot water, tea bag and a plastic cup of this red 'tart tasting' orange juice - so not fabulous but ok I guess. However if you're even a teeny bit fussy I think you may have problems here.

Good Luck.

  • Liked — Close to the Train Station. Clean Bathroom.
  • Disliked — View was bad, Staff can't speak English, location is a bit intimidating.
