The Hotel Fiume is not grand, but provides many benefits. The reception staff are highly professional and courteous, the rooms are clean and well organised, and the small lounge is comfortable with an obliging hostess behind the bar. The breakfast was first rate. The only downsides were that neither the reception level nor the breakfast room were at the same level as the lift, but were both up flights of about 8 steps, which makes it difficult for anyone with walking difficulties. Also there is no hotel restaurant for evening meals.
The Villa Borghese is within walking distance and all the attractions of the historic centre are within a short cab ride. There are several good restaurants in the surrounding streets. This is the civilised face of Rome.
